Hypnotherapy: Gastric band

Well, not just just but this morning just.

In an attempt to aid my improving excercise regime, earlier today a colleague of mine offered to provide a hypnotherapy 'gastric band'.

I'm a fairly open-minded cynic, and wasn't expecting much. This was 'clinical' hypnotherapy btw, and for the gastric band treatment you could be shelling out a £100 or so. It works like this; you position yourself somewhere comfortable (I was on a beanbag) and then the therapist reads through a script as your drift in and out. This script, being the gastric band variety, was specifically aimed towards portion sizes and junk food.

Anyway, that was this morning and it would appear to be pretty powerful stuff. I've not snacked on anything and (i'm struggling to even type this tbh) the thought of fast food/junk food creates a pain and sick feeling akin to having a build up of gas. I've also got a disgusting taste in my mouth which only makes an appearance when I'm talking about this.

There is a follow-up session next week, so I'll report back if it is still 'working' but for now I'm curious to see how this is going to pan out. The obvious goal is to lose weight and I know being a male i'm probably ripe for a piss-taking about this, but hey-if it works..

that's really interesting, esp cf X81s experiences, or lack of reporting of them recently.

Good blog-I had the hypno lot down as charlatans, although I do (sort of) understand the clinical distinction.

Where do the clinical lot train? Where's best? How do you spot one-is there a pro qual, or letters etc?

Do keep this blog up-I'm interested to see what pans out as well. What can 'clinical' hypnotherapy also do, & of extreme interest, speaking as someone who has to push things to the point of destruction just to see what happens, what are it's limitations? I've yet to see more 'fit & forget' solutions than I can count on the creaking fingers of one fucked up hand.

Well, it's been a while since I've had this and so far so good. I feel 'a little sick' at the thought of ALL fast food (my biggest weakness) and have avoided kfc etc without any problem. Just stopped.

I have a top up session next week ( and then the final session a month after that) and then I'm done. The next two sessions will expand in to all shitty food. I might even get it for booze.

I'll ask my colleague where she trained editor. She is actually a cbt specialist in the treatment of depression and suggests that the two (poor impulse control and low mood) are linked.

More to follow. I'm losing weight too which is a real bonus.

    .
thanks-can you ask about the limits etc too please?!

Fucking hell-yeah I'd go with that AND some! There's a character in a superbly gitty book (which you would like as well) called Raven who is a psychotic aleuit whi has sidecar with a nuclear device he nicked off a Russain submarine. He has 'Poor Implulse Control' tattoed on his forehead & his ambition is to nuke the USA. The book is called Snow Crash (Neal Stephenson) & is a lot about 'internet' gaming & gen ripping it out of US culture.

Good luck with it all & on behalf of your colleague thank you for sharing-I no longer consider 'clinical' hypnotherapy a variant on snake oil.

BLimey. I'd be a bit annoyed if i could never eat Nandos again tbh, do you think she could leave a Nandos clause in there? How do you know what they say though, that's what freaks me out about hypnoanything, they could be telling you to get up at 3am and dance in the street naked and you'd never know!
