    Default Water damaged engine?

If some total knobhead drove his car through a huge puddle (almost a pond) and it stopped, then wouldn't turn over at all, whats the best thing to do?

Considering the airbox was about 2" deep in water and the filter soaked (as in dripping wet)?

The engine appeares to be seized but I'm he's hoping that once the plugs come out it will turn over and dry out.

    Any advice?

Don't try and turn it over. It may have drawn water into the cylinder and have hydraulic lock, which can crack the block.

Take plugs out, then turn it over, and replace plugs.

I feel fairly safe in stating that it has hydraulic lock, the starter motor has a clutch and when I tried to start it the clutch kicked in as the engine was locked solid.

I just hope it hasn't bent anything inside.
Its a hire car, I'm not sure it has a 'fuck-wit' policy in their insurance.

Empty the sump and gearbox (if separate), replace oils and filter, make sure the fusebox is dry. Clean out the distributor. Empty carb bowl. Have a look for water in the fuel tank.

Don't try and turn it over any more until the plugs are out.

Its electronic ignition and fuel injection.
I won't be able to get a plug spanner until tomorrow morning.

So that salt water will sit in there all night, I've washed the engine down with normal water but obviously can't get to the cylinders until I get the plug spanner.

If you hired it and fucked it, take it back to the sea and fuck the door lock and ignition and phone the police that the car is stolen.

That hadn't been run in water, so it was far more likely to survive.
