Hayelp: Plumbing woes...all hot water taps have stopped working

Similar to this. The bit with the ball on the end. The tank should be near to full. diaphragm_ballcock_tank2.jpg...

I would suspect you have a fault with the cold supply to the hot water tank then, check the tank in the loft to see if it is full.

There should be a ball cock in there looking like this:

If there is no water in the tank and the ball is hanging low in the tank and there is no water flowing in, the rising main has most likely been turned off, check with the responsible adult where the stop cock and service valves are and make sure they are all turned on, stop cocks and taps open anti clockwise, service valves look like this when they are open

Note the screwdriver slot is in line with the valve.

Mmmmm, just thinking that if it's stored hot water, the central heating primary loop has an indirect coil that heats the water in the tank and if the tank is empty.......

Do you have any cold water tank fed taps upstairs? Do you have a tank in the loft, one in the airing cupboard?

Infact, go to the boiler, tell me how many pipes come from it.

    Sounds expensive

If a tank served hotwater system your ball valve has seized, if you have a combi boiler secondary plate heat exchanger is blocked, or an inline strainer blocked.

2 tanks in the loft - the big one is the hot water supply the small one is the F&E (feed and expansion) which puts water in the rads and boiler

nah will be fine, the primary coil won't get hot enough to cause any problems.

Cylinder could be full of scale?

I'm showing off in front of company.

I generally try to steer clear of the wet stuff and concentrate on combustion and controls

You can have showers here if it's not working tomorrow.

    But give us warning.

Seen this on a combi a fair few times . Punter uses the filling loop to top up the system but when they turn off the loop they also turn off the cold feed to the boiler = no water at the tap

    Just saying

    My money is on silly

Well, actually, you've skipped the grooming and gone straight to foreplay.
