A balding, slightly overweight man in a gaudy Porsche is a very sad sight. Unless it's a rather unloved example being driven by a fat, beardy acting agent off his fucking tits on coke in LA with a chromed .45 in the glovebox. And even then....

Not as sad as a fat middle aged bloke with a huge beer belly riding a fully carbon road race bike, while wearing lycra shorts and a UCI road-race champ jersey (i.e the one Mark Cavendish won). Good effort getting out and doing some excersice, but fucking sad if you're puffing your way up a small hill in Oxshott.

Whats worse is a balding, slightly overweight man who hasn't done well enough to even buy a Porsche.

And as MLSP would say as you see the fat balding bloke driving past in his Porsche you just know his success mocks your failure

Personally I think these blokes riding around on race replicas on the road are sad, but I suppose its each to his own.
Nothing screams "I fancy myself as a racer but I'm shit so I bought a superbike" like a KwakaYamma 1000.

But then you could say that for anything really, so it comes down to people simply liking what they like.
If you can afford it and like it then fair play.

Looking at one of these/boxster/z4 for me and mrs adamski this winter...I would choose the Cayman, she z4, we will probs end up with boxster!

I had a test drive and it is lovely, far nicer to drive at (moderate) speed than a 911, plus you can get to the end of the road with the fucking petrol tank emptying itself!

Lovely thing to be able to own, have one and be happy!

People buy flash cars because they can't afford F22 fighter jets

    It's a bollocks argument isn't it?

I think if people like flash cars then they buy the one that they can afford.
If I'd won Fridays Euro then even though I'd still like the Cayman I'd probably buy a Ferrari 458, but as I'm looking at budget of <£25k because I don't want to have to take out a loan then the Cayman is about the nicest thing I can see.

Depends what you fancy, but I'm not really a fan.

For the same cash, I'd have any of the following.

    Maserati 4200 Cambiocorsa Spyder
    2008 Lotus Elise
V8 Merc SLK (nice interior on these)

Or if I wanted to be really stupid.
    400 BHP corvette

If I had a bigger budget I'd have a Maserati Quatroporte, no question, its one of the most beautiful cars I've ever seen.
But its a black hole that you'll need to pour money into and depreciation is so amazing only the very rich can afford to write off that sort of cash.

    I wouldn't have a Merc, they're for fat plumbers.
I do like the Exige, but isn't it a bit of a hand grenade?

Buy the Cayman if you want it and can afford it, I don't like the looks, but it's not me who's buying it (and I'd probably buy another Opel Manta coupe if I was buying a car based purely on looks which proves I've got no taste)

    Why a bigger budget?

This one is £15k - Link
Or this one which is a few years newer for £23k - Another link

Or one that is only 4 years old (but has covered a lot of miles) for £21k - 2008 Maserati Quattroporte V8 EXECUTIVE GT 4DR + FULLY AUTOMATIC 4.2 | eBay

Its not buying a Maserati, it's running the things!

Porsche can be a reasonably affordable luxury

@JB I'd have an opel mata, in fact my mate has got one with a fuck off massive sub in the boot and some kind of weird heather crown hanging from the rear view mirror.

His driving is ungodly. He only seems to remember that he's the one actually driving it every 5 minutes or so, and the realisation always seems to be accompanied by some confused swerving.

I like them! I also want an SD1 (that isn't rotten, hasn't got a hole in the head gasket and does't have a droopy headliner).

Sorry...you are right, he should buy the Maserati, he can then bore the balls off us all about his Ferrari engine and four seats!

If you had the money to buy and run a 911 you wouldn't buy a Boxster, simples.
That's so note true though! They're different cars and having supercar performance is not always the main aim of a car. A Boxter handles beautifully and whilst you might be able to afford a GT2, you might not want to spunk all that cash on something that, on roads, is a less pleasant driving experience for 90% of the time when you're not in "going to jail" territory.

For the track, definitely not going to best the experience in a GT2, but for a sunny day having a nice blat around the Lakes? Top down Boxter S with the missus over a balls out blat in a GT2 thanks. Same goes for the Cayman, you don't NEED the faster 911.

A similarly described fat arabic looking fella bought a £14,000 Pinarello in Westfield on Friday. I hope it's for someone that's going to get some use out of it rather than it just languishing in his garage that is bigger than most NCP multistories somewhere in Dubai...
