Hey all...as the title says...don't buy a Mac EVER!

My good friend (who is blessed by being both Italian AND suffering from CP) bought a MAcbook pro...£1800...including a 3 year warranty.

It died horribly after two years and he took it to the apple store where a @genius@ informed him that as he both smoked AND dared to have pets the warranty was invalid!

They then showed him a picture of the inside of A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT MACHINE to demonstrate how disgusting he was!

They refused him on 'atmospheric conditions' wankers

THEN my imac died...again £1500+ of computer... the hard drive lunched itself at less than 3 years old. I have never had this issue with a £600 pc!! sure they grind to a bug infested halt, but I can bear replacing one every three years at that cost.

So the moral of my story is... don't waste your money on a Mac or any apple products!

(this from an ex fanboy...macbook pro and air, imac, pad...x2...and iphones)

ha ha ah, I have been using mac for work for the past . . . errr, ever since they came out!

I have had 6 personal computers... and all have lasted 5+ years and three are still going! And 2 laptops...the last laptop finally bit the dust 8 years after i originally got it...

They are incredibly well-built but way too expensive for what you actually get...but there are good and bad as with all machines these days.

My PC's in daily use, been going for 6 years, never had a virus that I couldn't clean with free AV and has just been to the menders for the first time, an accumulation of carpet fluff which was cleaned out for £50 and it's good as new

Works for me, don't know why people bother with Macs.

    They believe the hype?

M$ may release buggy OS onto the (un)suspecting public, but Mac really take the piss.

It's the refusal to honour the Warranty that really bugs me about my friends mac...then when challenged just repeat a script!

Let's just say that the Apple money machine can go fuck itself with a blunt stick before it gets any more of my hard earned cash...and they can be sure I will be telling as many people as possible about the hidden caveats and exclusions in the apple 'care' plans!

I am presently about to start a windows phone v Android trial. So far I am highly impressed with the Samsung Phablet, it would just be nice to have all my devices under one os.

This seems unlikely in my experience.

I generally quite like Apple products. What little issues I have had have been quickly sorted out.

Sample sizes of "1" may not be entirely conclusive, I feel ?

That's just an arithmetical point, not a fanboy thing

Is the problem with Apple themselves or a particular Apple shop?

Who and where are they based?

I think I agree with you. Most companies are well aware of their responsibilities under the Sale of Goods Act. Sometimes they need to be reminded of the "merchantable quality" requirements but refusing a warranty repair when the machine is still in warranty would be very strange. As you say, "sample size of 1" also it's not even a first hand story and all stories lose or gain something each time they're told.

Also not a fan of Apple, or Microsoft, come to that.
