It's interesting because it seems that there was knowledge of this but that due to circumstance it was suppressed. The victims obviously were not known to each other, and so were not aware there was a broader problem of which they were part. And most state they were silent out of shame, or fear they would not be believed. You could say this wouldn't happen today, but look at the abuses in Rochdale (or Rotherham?) recently.
Now that people are free to start muck raking without fear of legal reprisal it seems the "story" has emerged pre-formed and ready to roll, with it's various dismal appendages neatly queuing up to attach. And this has given people a broad scale awareness of what has happened, what has been done to them, and how it was done to others. Which has helped them finally come forward. This is the natural cycle of such secret horrors.
So the pieces seem to have all been in place and it simply took the removal of Saville himself to allow the story to naturally appear. I prefer that to the conspiracy theory that some people simply hated Saville for reasons unapparent and were merely waiting until he died to have a pop at his corpse. For the lulz.
I'm sure his abuse victims would prefer the initial take, at least.
and yet.....I'd be more inclined to believe someone who was abused by JS (or anyone) if they made a sworn statement to a solicitor at the time and saying the reason they weren't prepared to say the same to the police (eg fear, shame, thought they wouldn't be believed, didn't want to put themselves through a further ordeal).
I also know someone who was abused over several years as a child (by a family "friend"). This person will never come forward, for some of the above reasons, so I do understand it's avery personal and complex subject.
I reckon half the people on here were more comfortable in their skins back then. I wish there was a way we could send them all back there.
Loving this piece by the incomparable Anne Widdecombe:
Savile’s colleagues all kept very quiet | Columnists | Express.co.uk - Home of the Daily and Sunday Express
As for SirJim - he had plenty of time to perfect not looking like a paedo, he prolly enjoyed all the attention.
More revelations coming to light, including Garry Glitter having sex with an underage girl whilst in the same dressing room JS had his hand up a little girls skirt.
Gary Glitter raped a girl in Sir Jimmy Savile's dressing room, it has been claimed - Telegraph
According to the article, the BBC were well aware of some of the accusations as well.
How did Glitter know Jimmy would be cool with it? There must have been some tentative negotiations during which each man revealed increasing levels of paedoness whilst at the same time carefully gauging the other's level of approval.
"I dunno about you but I like to fuck girls Jimmy"
"What....kinds of girls do you like?"
"...erm....well....I dunno. Varies really"
"My mate, get this- you'll never believe it- well my mate he..."
"-fucked a 10 year old in the ass?"
"...........dude, we should totally throw a party!"
BBC Executive- "And the license payer shall pay for it! Hooray!!!"
Whatever happened to Innocent until PROVEN guilty ?
It must have changed now to Innocent until the internet says they are guilty.
