Default Xbox 360 - LIVE - connection problems

A few of us are having a bit of trouble trying to play together online.

For example, B.. will send me a game invite, I accept and then I get a wee window pop up saying "attempting to join session in progress....... attempt 1" - this will run through for about 7 attempts and I'll then be told "unable to join session in progress" or "server full".

The same thing happens when I try to invite B.

This happens whether we are in the pre-game lobby or in a "joinable" game session.

Both our NAT types are set to open.

Is there something we're doing wrong? Crappy modems/connections?

    TIA.

Funnily enough I was going to start a thread about Xbox live reliability as Playstation Network seems to have gone to rat shit recently.
Inviting friends on PSN can be just as tiresome.

    I don't think it's anything we're doin' dude.
Even in games recently, there's loads of lag.

That said, it does appear to B an issue tryin' to join the same game.
I just press the X button, wait till you're in the lobby then select 'join session in progress', this does however mean we won't B on the same team.

I'll investigate it later & post my findings.

Probably not. There's all kinds of clever matchmaking software running to decide if you'd get a good game together, be it through connection, skill matching or whatever. Computer says no.

I'd expect it to be a ping issue, you need ~<70ms in order to play most(?) modern games, which the non-Live tunnel services find hard to achieve. Essentially it helps stop pirates from playing online and there's nothing you can do about it since it's written into the game. You could each use your PC to find your public IP address and ping the other's to see if it's too high - What Is My IP Address - Shows Your IP Address

Agreed, in fact they use <50ms response times which makes it worse!
Thanks for the link, I'll check it out over the weekend.
It does look like an issue with the game itself as Danny_Two is havin' the same issues on his PS3.

I tried that a couple of times but got the "joining session...... attempt 1, 2, 3" and it kept falling over.

What's a 'ping'? I'm a dunce when it comes, inter alia, computer and technology. I couldn't even tell you what internet browser I use.

That's interestin'! Mine attempts twice then falls over.

    Ping
In a nutshell, sendin' small packets of data to an IP address/machine to see if it's 'live'.

A slight de-railment, but I noticed you can get the xbox for £160 now, I was toying with the idea of getting one so I could join the TRC CoD clique.

No dude, they released 3 models to keep costs competitive.
The HDD clips onto the top of the box.
(You can use external drives too)

At that price you mentioned, it will B included, so worry not.
    (In fact, I expect it'll B the 250Gb HDD).
