Don't spout any more apologetic Jobsisms at me, just go away and play with your Apple Winky ™ some other place.
I'm trying to assist in a rational manner. You are the one spouting illogical nonsense to the tune of "mine doesn't work -ergo it's shit..it's all shit! it's bricked! that's shit! I've been writing code since the year dot! its shitty code! Jobs is a cuddly wuddly beary beary boo! I've fired shitty cuddly wuddly beary beary boos for less!" well mine seems to work ergo all is well? I don't think it's that simple but hey nonny ho.

    So fuck you. x

    Takes one to know one.

Poor old AD quite obviously doesn't know what DFU mode is neither does he understand the implications of what a failed DFU is. I'll bet he's a clerk working in the back office of a Job Centre ...

Have you lot had too many shandy Bass cans or something?

How the hell does it go from buying a mobile phone to this level of personal insults?

    Have a word with yourselves.

    I bricked my 3G yesterday.

Went to settings and tried to remove all contacts so I could pass the phone over to a friend as his phone screen has went bonkers. The procedure takes 2 hour apparently. Well 4 hours later it was still switching itself on and off. Now its stuck in a similar loop as Iries only with an error code 9 when trying to restore.

Cant seem to find a fix anywhere on the net. Ill try the apple store next time im in Glasgow but its jbroke so don't know if they will help.

Farewell trusty 3G. It was a fun 18 months and ill never forget you.

They will try the same as you; DFU, restore. Even if they ignore the pineapple logo, they will only give you ten minutes or so. I've been playing around with an old phone in my spare time and managed to recover an iPhone from a similar situation - happy to have a crack at it if you want me to.

PM me if you get stuck...

From all this talk of bricked, I'm doubly glad I went Android, 'cos I would never have been able to resist jailbreaking an iPhone, and probably fiddle with it some more after. Not surprisingly, sounds risky. Don't need to do hacks for what I want out of my Android, phew.

Well, one person on here with a jailbroken phone has bricked it, maybe due to it being jailbroken and maybe not. And maybe permanently bricked, maybe not. Let's not get carried away with a user sample of one

Mine's always been jailbroken and not been a problem - like for millions of others.

I agree with some of what you say though - most of the reasons I jailbreak mine are to get functionality that it should have as standard.

I was sorely tempted to hack my Android so I could tether it as a modem and get Android 2 on it.
Fortunately I found a proxy app that lets me browse the web on my laptop and I can't get excited enough about pinching and five home screens to bother upgrading the OS, I suspect I have saved myself much work and pain.
If I had an iPhone then I would have had to jailbreak it as I like to use the forbidden (or premium) functions.

My last iPhone was jailbroked. My iP4 isn't. I guess I'm a pretty basic user but the only thing I really miss is intelliscreen (and to a lesser extent, 5 icon dock). But not enough to jailbreak the new one......which amazingly, despite the foaming-mouthed furore, is working perfectly.

Thanks. Im at my parents house this week watching the dog and cat but i may take you up on your offer next week

As for bricking it, I had the phone 18 months before this happened. I have no idea why. I know it not due to updating.

As soon as jailbreaking is available on the 4 then ill be doing it again. I miss sbssetting and 5 icon dock.

Im pretty sure if i had an android i would have it 'rooted' by now as well.
