Question intermittent acquisition of trackball on start up? Drivers??

This is hardly world collapsing, but it is perplexing me.

On this older PC, with win XP & an ECS K8M800-M2 motherboard, I have an ione libra-90 trackball. I like it-when it is recognised. PS2 attached.

Amazon.com: iOne Libra 90 PU Ergonomic Trackball Mouse PS/2 + USB White Color: Electronics

Trouble is one some days when I boot up the PC it isn't found. The cursor doesn't move. So using a wireless mouse I reboot it, & boing-more often than not it finds it. Not this morning it didn't.

It says plug & play. I did intall somesoftware/drivers for it sometime ago-via control panel it has a ms intellipoint logo & it's set to 'trackball explorer' in the connected device drop down.

The dongle for the wireless mouse is permanently connected. The keybooard is also PS2 conection. That never fails.

Any thoughts about what is going on & how to make the PC see it everytime please?

    Do you have cats?

if so - check the cable for toothmarks.

    Loose connection/not fully connected?

If it isn't really botherin' you that much Ed, stick the USB adaptor on it and see how it behaves.
Maybe have a look in Event Viewer for any errors?
