So, there's deffo nothing in Scheduled Tasks? You've checked your AV software isn't waking it up to scan?

Have a quick ganders in the BIOS, but I doubt this is the cause, if it's only just started performing this action.

Dependant on BIOS (Google your specific one), it should look a little like this, Pietin -

If the PC was shutdown, the Windows Task Scheduler wouldn't be running. AFAIK windows scheduled wakes only work from Sleep/Hibernate.

If it's powering up from a fully shutdown state then it could be one of the various BIOS triggers (scheduled start, wake on lan, power interruption recovery)

I suppose it's possible that the PC has a BIOS aware MB driver that's able to update the BIOS scheduled start time from within the Windows Task Scheduler.... but I've not come across one yet.

Easy to test if it's WakeOnLan causing it - unplug the network cable and see if it still wakes itself up.
Easy to test if it's power interruption recovery - when the PC's shutdown as normal, unplug it and then see if it wakes automatically when you plug it back in.
To test if its scheduled wake by the BIOS, change the time on the system clock and see if the time it wakes itself up changes.

    Indeed, makes sense, Stoo.
I just it bizarre that Pietin is only just experiencin' this issue without amendin' the BIOS, therefore, there has to be some piece of software that is utilisin' the WOL function from the BIOS.
(That said, we only play with XP Pro here, I have W7 at home, stayed away from Vista for some reason or another).

    Good fault-findin' suggestions btw

Perform the tests that Stoo suggested, at least it'll narrow it down to what the cause is; rather then us guessin'.

I'll follow that. I have looked into teh BIOS and everything clock related says disabled.

So how do I check that?

FWIW I just set the time back 2 hours and disconnected the LAN wire. It still started itself up from shut down(Not sleep).

Did it start at 8 o'clock our time or 8 o'clock PC time?

It can't be completely shutdown dude, I can't see how it can wake up without WOL.

Right, quick search suggests Bonjour can send a wake on demand packet from your router; but you removed the network lead, right? From the PC?

Press windows key & 'r' together (run command) type 'msconfig' ('without quotes'), click 'startup' tab, remove check from iTunes/Bonjour/Quicktime. Restart. Warnin' box will advise sysyem config has been fucked with, yarda yarda yarda. Check box. Ok.
Wait till 20:00 with your fingers & toes crossed.

    FFS. How many edits!?!?!
