Default Recommend an iPod to PC free transfer program

I'm trying to transfer songs from an old ipod to my sister in laws netbook without iTunes wiping it clean. The ipod is an old one that was set up years ago and has been used as a hi fi source ever since, the original computer is long gone and itunes account was set up by someone else for her and we now have no access to it , while she has all the cd's somewhere it'll be a pain in the backside to try and transfer them all onto the new computer.

I've used sharepod or similar in the past when computers die on you but I'm having a real problem finding some easy little program without paying over the odds for a one use thing. Some of these programs will let you transfer a few tracks before asking for payment ( I wish this was made clear before downloading- and subsequent deletion ), others have other restrictions, I dont need lots of features but would like an unrestricted version if possible.

    Whats out there?

Maybe try GTKpod. It's a long time since I used it so can't remember exactly what it can and can't do.

Banshee (the native media player) in Ubuntu controls iPods perfectly, including taking music off it. And it's free.

Create a new user account on the PC, install iTunes and sync to it, then delete the user account.
