I've an iPad but the password is not known (owner deceased).
Is there any way of getting around this, or is the thing just a paperweight?

I think you can do a factory reset or similar via iTunes.
Usual disclaimer: Info comes from listening to feckless art students are their problems. They are all better with Apple stuff, actually computers in general, than I am.
edit. Just noticed the typo, 'are' should read 'and'. Mind you maybe art students are their own problems?

Think you can do it through a reset after it's in recovery mode (or something!!)
You can easily reset it and lose all of the data on it. A bit trickier but you can root the device and recover all data (if it is irreplaceable).

Is there an app for that?
