Nexus 7 screen died today...

One minute it was perfect.... next thing you know a 1cm strip down the shorter of the sides, a load of lines on the screen, and it's well and truely FUBAR'd.

Must admit, apart from the fact that my lad uses it a lot... i'm not convinced i'll replace it if they offer me a refund.

Whilst it's a good piece of kit... for me personally it's a bit pointless mostly.

My girlfriends Nexus did this after she dropped it about one foot from the floor. The symptoms I saw were exactly the same as yours especially when it was connected to a power source.

As she dropped it didn't seem right to take it back to the store for a warranty replacement so I investigated taking it apart and having a look inside it. After looking at a couple of videos on YouTube I had a go using a thin credit card and the back came off really easy. After having a gentle poke about I found that the drop had caused the battery to move as it is not stuck on very firmly, this caused the battery connector to come lose. Once I pushed the connector home the Nexus worked as before.

I couldn't see how a shop or Google would be able to tell that the back had been of the device in case I wanted to make a warranty claim at a later date.

Could be handy for battery replacement when it starts to die, as they all do...assuming it's still being used at that point.

Well they seem to have recieved it Fri.... i've just got a mail from FedEx saying a package is on it's way from Asus to me....

I don't know if it will be a new Nexus or a repaired one.... but it's on it's way back .

How old was it? If less than a month then I wouldn't accept a repaired one as repaired stuff always seems to fail quickly or was never repaired in the first place as their shit procedures couldn't detect the fault even if it was clearly described.

Good luck, hopefully you won't be sending it back continually for the next six months.

When I was bouncing my HTC back to T-Mobile with a fault they couldn't fix I found out that HTC had a policy of replacing with new when the third attempt to fix it failed, when I pointed it out to T-mobile they sent me a new phone. Nexus 7 is made by Asus, if you get repeating problems it may be worth checking their replacement policy out.

Asus is who mine went back to mate (in Netherlands). There was a problem with Fedex yesterday which meant it never arrived y'day. It's out in the van from Camberley at the moment so i'm expecting to see it today.

Apparently return to base (paid for by ASUS) is their standard procedure for faulty items. My only worry now is that the Nexus is a 12 months type of purchase. Obviously i don't get a new warranty now and i think the Warranty on the Nexus is 12 months.... so it's possible that the item could only be a short term item.

Well it has arrived back... weird really. It's my old back casing... but the machine has been wiped for some reason .... maybe it's only my old casing/shell... dunno yet...

i think most things like phones, tablets, laptops etc get a factory image stuck on them so they can do the quality control/test processes before they are deemed fit to be returned.
