Kinect - Any Good?

With the imminent release of Deadspace 3 I was looking at getting a Kinect for my son. Great I thought, full motion fighting in the living room, commando rolls over the sofa, and stomping the cats in unarmed combat. I then read that it's only using the voice commands function, what a let down.

Anyway, still looking at getting one, but only if there's other stuff out there that's any good. Looking at the rest of the games they all seem very samey, i.e. fitness, sports, dance, or cartoon adventure. Nothing ground breaking or different from the games first out when it was originally released over 2 years ago, just versions on the same themes.
Are these games any good, are there any great ones, or has it just been a gimmick that has had it's day and shouldn't be bothered with now?

You need a lot of space for it to work properly, double that for two player (which is apparently the best bit of DS3 anyway). Good fun when it works right but like most gimmicks the novelty wears off pretty quick (if you're over 12 yrs old).

If you've got young kids who like a bit of mini-party-sports games then they may get some fun out of it, but as Loz says you need a good bit of space for it to work properly.

As for adult games it's pretty much limited to voice commands. I've yet to find a game where saying a command is quicker than pushing a button on a pad.

It had masses of potential when it first came out, unfortunately it's not been embraced by the manufactures and has actually got worse with each update from microsoft.

Bought one when it came out. Used it once. Went in a drawer. Good technology not utilised very well. An expensive doorstop and it was designed for the american market when people have massive rooms. You need a huge room to use it properly without damaging furnishings/lights/small people.

Our front rooms pretty big as it's a converted shop, but seems from the replies it's a waste of time. No wonder there's so many for sale on ebay.

I got one for my kids when it came out, it is good (for kids) but as above you need more space than it says on the box. If you're into exercise games then it's good as it can monitor arm and leg movements. I use it most with iPlayer as you can wave your hand instead of using a controller.

Bought one for my 3kiddies aged between 8 and 11.
got a bit of use over Christmas and since then it,s back to FIFA and mx games with normal controls.

waste of my money.
