It depends on the hours Shirley
Insurance costs are much lower for unlicensed minicabs
Lots of people very, very bored IME.
You got the time to do 'the knowledge'? Hardest job in the world learning that, man and boy.
if you've got your own black cab over £60K
if you're strapping for someone else, £25K upwards
tho according to research, black cabbies are a poorly paid bunch according to HMRC
Wouldn't surprise me if they did make £60K+.
Used to know the brother of a London cabbie. He apparently only earned about £15k a year according to his tax return.
Quite how that managed to fund his BMW, his 4-bed house in Essex, and his holiday home in Spain, will forever remain a mystery (to the tax man).
Do they still need the Knowledge now that every man and his dog has satnav?
Any decent black cabbie worth his salt does yes.
Don't forget you also need to have long grey hair in a pony tail and the ability to moan constantly to passengers about how things have changed since you were a lad.
Would you go sarf of the river at this time of night?
If so, you wouldn't make a cabbie
Arent the fares/charges dictated by the mayor?. If so, after a few yrs of Livingston i'd be amazed theyre not all millionaires.
Though the £25k/£60k divide quoted above could also maybe be the difference between honest cabbies and the gits that take you an a tour of the city when all you ask for is a ride from wc2 to ec1
My Mate`s a black cabbie (his cab is black he isn`t although he does live in New Cross). He was just round here moaning that he only took £200 last Sunday.
All sorts of things, I suppose it really depends how good he is with his hands. If he really put his mind to it, he could probably make a kit-car, or even a centrally heated annexe in the garden that relatives could stay in.
