Default Hayelp: Plumbing woes...all hot water taps have stopped working

    Hello clever types

Help is required asap. About 20 minutes ago, out hot water stopped working. ALL the taps in the house would trickle to a stop and then nothing. The cold water works fine.

Most of the taps in the house are those mixer types where you have one tap and move the handle left for hot/right for cold.

Any ideas as to why the hot water has just stopped all of a sudden?

    Many thanks

How is the hot water heated? If it's a combi boiler then maybe that has stopped working.

What type of boiler do you have?
Do you have a tank in the airing cupboard?
Do you have a tank in the loft?
Have you turned off any valves or taps anywhere in the house?

Do you have a responsible adult in the house to help you?

As others have said, probably a problem with a combi boiler (pump, control or monitoring electronics).
Alternatively, the feed to/from the hot water feeder tank has sprung a dramatic leak and your ceilings are about to collapse.

Failing that. Do you have the phone number of a central heating fixerer?

Turn the taps on and stand next to them having a piss, it might encourage them to work.

First we need to know how the water is heated and stored.

Won't be the pump as that's not for water, thats for heating. I'm doubting combi as thats mains pressure fed and all taps will have the same pressure, there's nothing in a combi that closes or opens the water flow rate other than the tap you want water from.

    Hello again

Not a combi boiler. It's a 'potterton'. There is a tank in the loft and another tank in the airing cupboard, with the boiler.

I'm covered by British Gas 400, which does boilers/plumbing household electrics. They're sending someone out tomorrow afternoon to fix it.

I googled it, and one of the suggestions was to connect a hose from the cold tap to the hot tap and let rip for ten seconds. I haven't done that yet

Potterton is just the make you know, but I don't think it'll be a combi anyway.

Check the feed to the tank in the cupboard. See if it is full and see if there is a ballcock/valve and make sure it is okay.

dunno about central heating as it goes off at 7pm and i'm reluctant to turn it on again. It will come on again at 6am, unless of course I stop it.

Will it do any damage if I turn it on now?
