Question Google-Fu failing me: I want a tool to tell me how long my PC has been running

    - not Uptime but rather a counter which will report to me how many hours my PC has been running - irrespective of reboots and so on.

Anyone know of such a thing? Or phrases that might improve my Google-Fu?

like running time for an engine? i don't believe it is possible unless you've implemented something clever when the PC was built. the motherboard won't store it and neither will the OS.

I'm thinking of a tool which is like a cumulative uptime tool. Windows will report how long it's been up and how long since the OS was installed.

If there is an uptime tool which stores uptimes as a record in a file, that would do.

Cumulative, now there's a word for me to search with.

Do you have a SATA disk? It will keep a running total of the number of hours it's been up. You can access them through any SMART reading utility. Just make sure you don't have power saving features turning off the HDD while the computer is on.

I'm interested to know how long my PC might have been running over all time, that's all. So that I can really feel that I've used the crap out of it by the time I retire it

Given the geekiness of the requirement, most geeks leave their machines on 24/7. In which case you can use a calendar.
