Default Recommend me a colour laser printer...

    ... again!

A few years ago I asked the same question and bought a Xerox 6110 printer that now prints with a streaky output on the LHS of the page when using black, all other colours are clear & crisp.

I have stripped and cleaned the toner delivery system and waste output to no avail, it is probably worse than better. Replacement parts are more than the price of a new one.

So, I am now looking for a new printer for relatively low volumes, home use, low cost consumables, network and duplex would be nice but not essential.

Have a look at the BROTHER range... I highly rate them - got around 45 in the company and they are ultra reliable.

Thanks for the replies so far, what are the consumable costs like on those linked?

The rational for laser is the printer may sit for days without being used and I have binned several inkjets in the past with dried up heads. However with two daughters heading to six form in September, I suspect they will be abusing the printer, hence needed cost effective toner for which ever printer is bought.

Had a Samsung CLP300 for YEARS. Only ever replaced toner twice, and used cheap ebay pattern parts both times, which worked perfectly and cost pennies. The fuser unit is dying now, but we've more than had our money's worth out of it. Will be buying the equivalent modern unit to replace it.

I bought an HP3600 about 6 years ago, from their LJ SOHO range. It's not been used a huge amount and is still printing well with the original toners.
They have some really cheap LJ printers now, the cheapest probably have a glaring problem or two but I'd happily have a mid range one.

+1 for Samsung or Brother - I recommend them to customers that ask me the same question. We've used and abused both in our office with no major issues.

Compatibles for the laser cartridges are a lot more reliable nowadays. We've supplied a range called Perfect Green for 4ish years now and have probably had to return more faulty HP cartridges than the compats in that time. Customers seem to be getting slightly more page life out of them too.
