Default WTD : Commuter/roadie cheapo tool.

Missed out on a coolish looking Raleigh last night as a potential commuting tool for next spring/summer. Budget is low... (£125 max) but i don't want anything exceptional for that. Just something that will roll and get me done for the 18 mile each way commute.

Anything you see/know of that's either local or available within budget delivered, let me know please guys.

    Ta.

Simplest answer is... there's 3 hills i simply couldn't get up on a fixie/SS mate. 1 on the way to work, 2 on the way home... No chance at all.

The 'simplest' answer but maybe not necessarily the best financial decision is a set of spare wheels and tyres for the 29er. But they're hard to find at a decent price.

    Can't complain for that price!

80s style - you should get spokey-dokeys for it.

Even better - now you can afford a pack of playing cards for the wheels too!

The only shame of it is that it is likley to put you off road riding because the bike doesn't compare to your MTB.

I'd wager it'll be heavier than your 29er and 'only' having 14 gears will mean that you are constantly looking for a different ratio.

Agree totally, but in all honesty it's not designed to get me 'into' roadie stuff, it's not really my thing. Plan is to use it for some winter/spring training when wet/muddy and i can't be arsed cleaning the mud every day off the MTB and some commuting to save a few quid. I don't really 'get' the roadie stuff in the UK. It will also be nice to use it to tailor my training for the Alps a little bit.

Well i got it it's.... well... pretty OK... although my guess is it will be up for sale by tomorrow. I 'think' when i finish putting it together it's going to be too small.

It's a 54cm... i dunno what that equates to in MTB type sizing... but it's looking TINY to me...

Just need to go downstairs and get the Allen keys out and set the bars and seat and see where we are with it.

You're 6'+ or so, aren't you? I'd say it would be small, aye

Not sure it's fair to say road bikes aren't for you if you've had a go on this cheapy with a heavy frame and low-spec bits, when you're used to high-end MTBs, not really a fair comparison, but up to you

It does look in good nick any anything for £75 is cheap but this is a pretty cheap bike to start with

It's actually not that heavy from my perception... certainly lighter than my mtb which comes in at 26lbs... but i dunno how much lighter...

Agree the comparison doesn't really work with this and the MTB's i've owned/own.
