...............And it was alright actually. I was riding back from Peterborough last week and stopped to sort my chain as it had flown off. Anyway grabbed a quick banana and was setting off when i saw a few other bikes headed towards me so i finished my 'nana and waited for them pass as they were close now and moving quite quick. Got a shout from the lead rider to jump on the back so i did. Being man 4 in a fast moving group doesn't half make the ride easy i highly recommend it
For the next 15 miles they dragged me home at a good but comfortable for me pace. Chatting to them it turns out they are all local club riders and asked me to turn up on sunday for a ride..So i did.
Got there as one group was heading off and i know the lead rider, he is super fit, rides everywhere and does 24hr endurance races for fun at..............................66 years of age so figureed they would be a bit quick for me. Opting for the next and last group to leave i hopped on the back and got going..........................OMFG were they slow. Fairs fair but christ almighty we did 25 miles in 1hr 47mins WTF is that all about. An AVG of 14.6mph is more than dissapointing so at the tea break stop i was deciding what to do as i couldn't face another 20 miles back home at that pace, i'd just waste my time without actually pushing my legs or doing any training. As luck would have it the faster group were also at the same tea break stop so after some pie (Mmmmmmm) i gambled and went with them.
Much faster and right on pace for me. I could have pushed a little harder but was very comfortable. riding in this group was great, they did a sort of rotation of everyone having the lead and then working back through the group all the way round to the lead again. Awesome as it kept the avg high and the miles dissappearing. 18.9 miles in 59 minutes including being stuck at lights for 2 minutes. Well happy with that.
They are mainly a TT club hence why i've not really looked to joining them before but i might just attend a few more rides and maybe look at doing a 10 mile TT. Best 10 miles so far is 29 minutes something but was last year in very favourable conditions so i have lots to improve on before i can seriously look at doing a 10 mile TT.
Finally starting to get back into riding again and after a bike fit last week think that i am getting better and will be stronger than i was last year, happy with a 44 mile ride on only my 10th ride or so after my 10months being a lazy git. Next up is upping my solo avg spd where i have no one to hide behind
