Saw on Strava my pal in Australia is doing it. Guess it being mid summer will help!
I'm not as will be in the states. Only an old ten speed at my parent in laws' place and will probably have a few feet of snow.
Can't imagine how i'd even consider this in the middle of a UK winter/cold spell. Whoever does that is a brave person.
No
45 miles a day for a week on a fixie? Fook that!
A couple of days (300k and a 200k) should crack this easily. Unfortunately I don't do facebook/Twitter/Strava etc & have no intention of starting - I'd rather be out on the bike.
You just need to wrap up propper.
I wear endura thermolite bib longs, a long sleeve base layer top, short sleeve cycling top, softshell jacket and a thin hat under my helmet, couple that with a pair of thermal gloves and winter boots and I'm warm enough down to zeroish, sub zero I'll put on an altura night vision jacket as well and I'm fine
as for the 500K, aint got time for that sort of malarkey with all the drinking I need to be doing![]()
It was a good laugh because of the characters there. The riding was "interesting", especially the timber north shore bits!
Oh, and I'm still in shorts! The Fox Evolution 3/4 are still the best winter wear ever!
Be very careful!
Mate of ours was doing the Bikeradar 'metric century a week' challenge, had got up to a total 0f 76 recorded rides and was in 2nd place, when he crashed in December 2011 on Aston Hill A40, nr Stokenchurch. I was with him that day, bitterly cold but roads looked okay, however some ice on a corner and down he went. Fractured hip and collar bone. He was out for about 5 months I think.
When it gets anywhere near freezing I'm inside. Just not worth the risk.
If I go out on the road bike I'll head out about 1.30 or 2pm - give the roads a chance to warm up a little. Better off mountain biking when it is this cold.
