I was planning on doing a decent distance ride this morning, but as it's blowing a hoolie and pissing down I think I'll give it a miss.

an hour on the turbo will have to do instead

I'm going to try and keep a record this year but only 2 of the 6 bikes I'll be using have computers so a bit of estimating will be involved.

I had loads of fun last year buying and fixing old 80's and 90's mtbs, the actual riding took a back seat which I plan to change. At a guess I probably managed about 500 miles in 2013.I'd like to at least double that this year.

Yesterday was spent stripping and greasing the bb and wheel bearings on the old 80s MuddyFox Courier I picked up earlier. This thing is a massive 23 incher,I can't wait for it to stop pissing down and get out for a spin.

I hate my Turbo. I couldn't be bothered to do one of the three sufferfests I have access to so watched some #svenness instead. Then the problem was motivation. It's not so much the pedalling or the lack of having to balance, it's just the whole environment. Even with the window open its way too hot in there.

I need a fan really but then that means I have to spend a ridiculous amount of time setting stuff up every night.

Not trying to sound like Weeksy, but I guess I love riding so much! I love the scenery blurring past. I love the terrain changes. I love the smells. I love the puddles splashing your legs. I love accelerating after cars that overtake me. I love going like fuck when I see another cyclist coming the other way (go on, admit you do it too )
Yes I also love chasing numbers- riding that hill in a bigger gear, getting between those traffic islands quicker, beating that PB on Strava, beating that TT record, hitting a new max speed down that hill but none of that is relevant on the turbo.

Sitting in a puddle of sweat in the dining room is crap. End of.

Still, ever so slightly better than doing nothing at all and I couldn't let the day pass without racking up at least one mile

my turbo is in the workshop permanently set up with a loud stereo to blast out whatever I may fancy, and it's fecking cold in there especially if I leave the roller door in front of me open a bit and open the window behind me to create a nice breeze.

but yeah, time does drag on there

I did have it in the shed but then I was even less likely to get down there to go on it

I find the sufferfests pretty good to be fair but I need a load more of them.

It doesn't help not having an immediate goal- it looks like I'm going to miss the feb Gorrick so nothing interesting until March.

Do you guys realise just how hooked that you have got me with this cycling malarkey!?

I felt that the weather here today in respect of wind was just too dangerous to ride in, but sitting here now after having seen tomorrows much nicer weather forecast, I'm thinking of bunking off work tomorrow just to go cycling to make up for not getting out today.

Cycling or work? The letter C comes before the letter W so I guess that it kind of makes the choice easier.

I would cycle the 11 miles to work, but all of my tools are here at home.

edit.... Well that plan went well. I was up most of the night with a major sweat and puking up. So no work, and currently I don't feel much like moving.

Today will be my first ride back... it will be indoors, so will be dull... but i've set myself indoor goals for 2014 as well as outdoor goals and also weight loss goals.

So today will be all about getting in the mind-set. Working for 36km in an hour today. Back end of last year i had the pace for 36km, however i kept pulling the plug after either 40-50 mins mostly due to boredom. So, today i'll be finding the iPod headphones and getting focused on the task in hand.

End of Jan i want a 38km indoor, with by June it being upped to a 40km within the hour, that will shatter my PB which is about 38km.

Well i managed 36.1km in the hour... Average heart rate was 166bpm.... which felt hard as hell for the last 10 mins or so i must admit.

Just done another session on the rollers listening to my mp3 player. Two tracks easy to warm up then alternating one track hard, one track easy. I was using the old Raleigh with down tube shifters and shifted up a gear for the hard bits and down for the easy. The only time I had a problem was the final effort when I shifted up two gears, lost my concentration and almost rode off the side. That's the first time I've needed the front roller guides.

I like these rollers, an hour is about the limit though.

Well after a promising start to last year it fell apart in a big way. 2 house moves and a promotion took over so I'm determined this year to hit the 4000 mile total this year. 1 turbo session done so only 3984 miles to go, gulp. I think I might try and do 1 sportive a month or join a club as riding alone does tend to get a bit monotonous.

    Interesting.
Are you guys counting Turbo / Roller miles the same as road miles?

I personally am for the same reason I count downhill and coasting miles too
The only true way we could measure like for like would be if we all had power meters fitted.

I'm not sure a spin bike is comparable without knowing the gearing though

Other opinions will vary I'm sure
