    Default CBR6 or 675 trumpet

So, as I'm sure you saw/heard me bleating on about, I got my '07 CBR600RR pinched last week. Assuming the insurance company don't royally fuck me over (optimistic I know) I'll be looking at a replacement soon.

Plan was/is to go like for like. I absolutely loved the CBR6: power/weight/handling were just right for me. So more of the same please.

The only thing that's potentially veering me off course is the 675 Daytona. 06/07 can be had for much the same money. 3 cylinders and the Triumph brand have a certain allure.

    eg Triumph DAYTONA 675 (2007) Motorcycles for sale | 7574293 | MCN

What's the wisdom? I gather the current 675 is top of the heap for the supersports according to the journos but what about 06/07 vs 07 CBR6? (the CBR6 would definitely be an 07- major revision between 06/07 means anything older is out).

    675. More class, brilliant handling and better midrange making for a more useful bike.

    And it's British

    I'd go for 675.
Mate had Cbr before and he prefers the Triumph - mainly for the extra torque and the sound!
Try something new. If you hate it that much go back to a cibber.

I've had a CBR600RR in the past and loved it. I've had a few rides on the Daytona too (test ride and loan bikes) and if I was in the market for a sports bike nowadays, I'd go for the Daytona.

The only thing I'd say about the daytona is that it's quite a compact bike. If you're on the larger side, it might get a bit small for you.

Find a Triumph dealer and get a test ride. My local one (Jack Lilleys) are very accomodating with test rides.

Much as I love Jap build quality, I do find myself hankering after Triumphs....

    Fairly unanimous opinion coming through!

I'm 6ft but found the CBR6 really comfy so not too worried about it being compact unless the pegs are way higher or bars way lower. Test ride is the answer ofc- need to have some money to spend first though.

I am a fan of a good soundtrack though :P

Actually- I've got On Yer Triumph up the road who were very happy to let me out on the speed 3 and street 3 previously, despite me having no real intention of buying..... think I might take a pop out at the weekend......

Well that's thrown a cat among the pigeons: I "accidentally" test rode an 07 tuono yesterday.

What a weapon! Feels big and brutish. Loud and lairy. But with high pegs and nimble, precise handling. It was a total hoot.

I'm spoiled for choice! Test ride on Daytona 675 pencilled in for mid week.

I'm starting to not really care what I get. They're all great

    Is probably the right answer.

I love the 675 motors torque compared to the 600 IL4s Daytona is a bit hight seat but at 6' that's now problem for you.

If you are looking at a V twin try a KTM SD too.

Or a slightly different route would be Honda SP2 - good low mileage examples are rising in price - Honda reliability, massive stomp, sorted.

Well I've just been out for a blat about up by Aston Clinton <-> Buckingham on this:

Oh my word it's nice. It's difficult to be objective coming off the CD250: everything is going to feel ballistic. But it did seem to have all the poise and intent of the CBR600RR with just more instant poke and that little bit taller- seemed more my size. Just fantastic. And as if that wasn't enough: the noise! Holee shit it's orgasmic. I have to have one. Brain is out the window; this is a heart decision. I was running the engine up and down just to listen to the induction roar/exhaust and overrun. There's a "ferrari-ness" about the wail. And that was the std can. Not quite as eager to turn as the CBR but rock solid in the corners. I did nothing with either bikes suspension though so that may just be down to settings? As always- WAY beyond my capabilities to fully exploit but trying is just soooo much fun.

(The negatives- seems to run pretty hot: ok, its a hot day but it was 2 bars (out of 10?) away from max temp whenever it was stopped at lights, and the traffic wasn't heavy. Hope it'll be OK in London traffic. The zorst under the seat cooks yer arse. I'm sure it's lovely in winter but today it was a bit toasty (?more heat shielding?). Maybe very slightly more wristy than the CBR- probably because the seats a touch higher)

Exactly how I felt about my 955 triple with full race can. Absolutely screamingly orgasmic to ride, purely for the full audio. Getting that utter throaty howl in the tunnels with the popping on the overrun at you exit, scaring the shit and other objects out of car drivers. I miss that bike already. Going to be one bike I'll regret having sold.

Not having owned one myself I can't say, but my Firestorm runs seriously hot all the time due to the side mounted rads. A little traffic and the temp shoots up to 100-105C. Doesn't even have to be a hot day.

a mate had a 675 from new, and had nothing but electrical probs with it. Intermittant, so the gave the garage no end of probs and he was never sure it would get him home.

Could have been a 'friday afternoon' bike
