I've ordered this Garmin Nuvi 1410 refurbed

Weatherproof case, RAM & SW mo-tech compatible for 5" sat navs

12v waterproof socket with a faceplate and a fuse

I've also got an appointment to get one of these fitted tomorrow, they are only round the corner so he's going to drill the top yoke bolt and fit it while I wait.

    Total cost - £140

That's cheaper than the bike specific ones are going second hand; it's a bit of a joke how expensive they are.

Great when it late evening on a small Scottish island and the ferry leaves at 0730 sharp next day. There seems to be no way of contacting TomTom's customer services dept either by phone or by email. Also the map upgrade appeared to be dearer than buying a new up to date map.

My credit card co. are now dealing with so I'll wait to see what happens.

*Why? Because I want to sell the thing soon.
I wouldn't have a tomtom again if it was free. Twice its bricked updating with their crappy software. And they tried to blame me. Fifty quid they wanted for a new map. Nothing but problems.

Update following my pathetic whining to my CC company. It's now in dispute and if TomTom don't dispute my dispute then I'll get a refund in about a month.

If they do dispute my dispute then I shall in turn dispute their lasted dispute of my dispute.

Added: I should probably have tried the distance selling regs first.

Just bought a Zumo 220, refurbished, from Pixmania for £200. (You have to buy their loyalty card to get down to that but it works out the cheapest way.)

I use my phone with wired in-ear headphones. I often just stuff it in my pocket and listen to directions. But if I need to see it, I duct tape it to the tank.

Hmm, not cheap are they? But then again it looks like I might be on the slippery slope towards a bluetooth headset to go with the Zumo...

So everything has arrived now and short of installing the cig lighter socket everything else is checked and working.

Went to the The Telferizer Custom Motorcycle RAM mounts for GPS Systems bloke in Stockport; Bob was very helpful and while I waited he took the top yoke bolt out, inserted a ram ball mount onto it and put it back in.

Then came the Sat Nav & case, it's a bloody snug fit and I wouldn't have fancied my odds had it been any bigger at all.

The fitting on that was really simple, there's a clip on the back that screws on to tighten to the ball mount and then the case clips onto that.

Then that's it, just need to wire the socket in and I'm good to go. (The flash off the camera spoilt this picture a bit)

I'll be interested to hear whether you can actually see the screen with it mounted there as I have a similar set up on my Daytona and R1 and unless it is night or I am in shade, I can see the squareroot of fuck all.

I am moving the ram mount onto the headlight fairing bracket so that the phone is vertical under the screen.
