I've got a bike up for sale on ebay. The current high bidder wants the number plate and frame number to do a HPI check. Is that normal/ok or am I just being paranoid?

As RB says, an HPI check only needs the reg. no. Tell him when he comes and looks at it he can check the frame and engine number against the v5 that's [hopefully!] in your name.
If I wanted to sell I'd give him the details.
Technically speaking a HPI indemnity isn't valid until the VIN number is checked on the actual vehicle.
What exactly do you think he's going to do with your frame number ?
In theory the info could be used to ring a bike. However if you want to sell it you do need to give the buyer enough info for him to check the machine.
It's always amused me that people are so keen/paranoid to blank out their numberplates in photos, how many have had real, personal experience of being cloned after showing it?
Easy on the paranoia, big fella. If I was serious, I'd be asking those sort of questions (allthough I'd probably wait until I'd seen the bike, won the bid, etc, etc as it only takes a few minutes to do an HPI check). I don't see any issues in giving this info. BM will be along in a minute to tell you the same but wll add that the world is full of beautiful people who can be trusted and good karma comes around.....
