    Default Clunking Gearbox

Whenn hot my bike has started to clunk changing gear. I dont mean normal running hot i mean after i give it beans. I have Silkolene 10w40 oil in the bike. Did an oil filter change 1000 miles or so ago. Does oil go off? The bike has only just started to get used again and the oil filter change was about last October. The clunk is more so going down the box so i would doubt its the clutch starting to go.

    Any pointers, ideas to try?

Is there enough oil in it, have you changed from fully synthetic to semi synthetic, or from semi to mineral?

I dont buy synthetic as its an old bike and i read somewhere standard 10w40 is fine. The bike is only at 23k miles. Only thing i did was take the clutch cable off for an oiling but i marked the bolt hights and bar adjuster so i can put it back the same way. Yes the level is fine. Its sits about 2-3 mm under the full mark after its been running.

Have you checked you chain recently - I've had a few bikes where the gear change got clunkier if the chain wasn't right, Triumph Sprint especially

All the more reason to check the tension's correct! New chains will slacken off after the first hundred or so miles.

And as already advised, check the clutch adjustment too.

Mel's comments are also valid - especially so if it's a Suzuki.

Trust me Doc, i look at the chain a lot every day as its the first time i have riveted a chain and i am not to sure so i keep an eye on the link. Ill try the cable again just to rule out. What i did notice when having the sprocket cover off is the selector rod going into the engine the seal has started to weep. This is just slight and lucky it has another cover so changing that will be an easy job. Its a Kawasaki BTW.
