MIght be cos of the faff you'd have to go through re-registering it for use in RoI or mainland UK, though if it's for sale in NI (i.e. priced for NI-NI sale) I don't know why it would be cheaper...

I imagine it's be tough to insure on its NI plates

Note that the above is idle speculation

    Sloth,
Will it still need re reg if its up for sale at a dealer in the uk?
I'm a bit baffled as remember a friend buying a NI registered car way back and driving it on the NI plates in the uk for years?

It is still part of the union, no?

From memory, a vehicle bought in NI on NI plates can be driven/ridden in the rest of the UK. You can apply to have the plate changed if the NI reg bothers you.

As Jester88 is from Dublin, then if you're buying the vehicle for use in the Republic you can use it on NI plates for a limited amount of time (3 months?). After that you have to re-register on Eire plates and pay a hefty bit of tax, something like the difference between what you paid for the vehicle and what the tax man reckons it's worth.

    Thanks piranha,

Apols confusing everyone, based London just over in dub for a little.
Bike will be based and used in uk.
So in summary it's just a bit of reg plate snobbery that affects price but has no real substance.

    I can cope with that.

Generally, the only reason NI vehicles are cheaper, is because it costs a few quid to get them back over the water. Nothing to do with the registration plate. Oh, and because all the Irish (north and south) drive like fucking lunatics, so all their vehicles are proper shagged.

Scottish vehicles tend to be cheaper too. As said, its the cost of going to get the vehicle which hammers the price

If people don't like NI plates, the bikes will be cheaper.

I have a NI plate on my car. Snobbery of course as I is from NI and I want all you Engilsh feckers guessing at the age of my car. Plus driving it like a lunatic is accepted as normal.

I thought people paid to get an NI plate on some cars because it was non age related.

As Olly says, there's the distance thing which counts. I have a mate who lives in London, visits Glasgow and reckons he can make a few quid on each trip by buying and returning in a saleable car (BMW 3-series coupes typically IIRC).

I guess it can't be that much or dealers would just bring them down in bulk.

I used to fly over to London, and buy a bike, and make £3/400 profit ,selling it over here in NI.
not anymore, prices have come right down here. There isn't the same mass market, but there's less change the bike stolen or a ringer.
