    Question Fazer 600s

I'm off to have a look at one in a couple of hours as a replacement for the banged up Bandit.

Anyone know of any particular foibles I should look out for other than those expected on an 11 year old bike?

Probably won't be riding it today as no insurance but might sort that out for another time if it's worth a second look.

    Cheers in advance.

Corrosion is the main one. Seized brakes, cracking carb rubbers, damage around front sprocket. Adjustable forks on the S worth having.

Gear linkage can get a bit sloppy making it clunky gearchanging round town at lower revs and original exhausts headers are not stainless so rust to buggery.

Ideally look for one with upgraded rear shock and better fork springs they handle well as standard but they cope better with bumpy roads when upgraded obviously.

The only issue I had was shite headlights on my MK1.

Thanks gents. Ad says it has new stainless downpipes so that shouldn't be a prob.

I'll be sure to check the other bits carefully.

I'm quite prepared to do a few bits on it after purchase if it needs it and if the price is right.

Is it FZS600 or FZ6? They're completely different bikes.

The Revised model with the brilliant 'foxeye' headlamps had stainless headers and will bolt straight on, Delkevic also make cheaper pattern replacements.
I also found the gear change was paricularly sensitive to worn or ill tensioned chain.

Mine ran sweet as a nut for the 28k I put on it but as mentioned corrosion on the faux cooling fins and piston calipers were prone to sticking, rear shock went soft at about 20k

Good bike, good engine, chassis is a little uninspiring when pushed hard but coming from a bandit I doubt that you'll mind, enjoy!

Apparently it has new chain and sprockets as well.

Off to have a look now.

Well, I was expecting much for the money but my Bandit was worth about the same and was so much tidier.

It's been on it's side at some point which I suspected as the fairings are matt black and the rear brake lever is bent.

The fork lowers are as furry as our cat but the stanchions are clean and dry through the fork travel area but the dust seals are rotten.

It steered and braked ok but the bars didn't feel straight.

On the plus side, it's got a years MoT and has had the rear caliper serviced and new pads put in as they were binding. The chain looks pretty new and the tyres are decent.

This is the first bike I've looked at since my off so I'm not going to rush into anything.

My 12,000 mile minter went for a grand a few months ago so I wouldn't get a shitter unless it was really cheap.

Part of me is tempted to make a necky offer but even doing the essential bits it'd still look a bit shonky.

I do like the look of the thousands (especially Screwd's one) but my budget at the moment is up to about 1500 quid, maybe a touch more. Due to the broken wrist I've missed a shitload of overtime and after taking into account my excess I got a cheque for £750 for the Bandit!
