Would you have one, have you had one, what are the known issues with them?
If you wouldn't have one, why not, what would you have instead for less than £2k.

Always appear 2 me as a poormans SP1-2.Decent brakes and build quality is decent. The firestorm seems to have a good following ,,with many tarted up to resemble nothing like the orig bike. However i would not have one as i still miss my sp2.
Cheap to buy, plenty of torque for wheelies and they sound nice witn a pair of cans. Better road bike than SP1/2.
For 2k i'd probably go for a Suzuki SV1000 instead though.
One of many very happy days spent on mine..

I had one many years ago when they first come out. No real problems if looked after as it was honda's first build on budget bike in the rush to get it out.
suspension was either a wooden horse or rubber dingy on the rapids whatever you adjusted and i would say the seat is not the best, early ones have carbs which failed at the sniff of duff petrol so i fitted a inline filter which cured this. Very progessive pulling power but gearbox goes baggy at topend so speeds under a ton is where its best smiles are got.
I progessed to the sp1 when it came out which addressed all the above and IMO best bike ive owned for grins.
Had one, loved it, sold it to buy summat I'd always wanted. Rode another one recently, loved it again, very tempted to keep me eye out for another if it came up cheap enough.
Very small tank range is the only thing some people moan about, and front camchain tensioner can play up.
Even I can wheelie one of these - up to about 3.5k in 2nd, slam throttle shut, slam throttle open, wheelie.![]()
I've already said my bit on another thread but I reckon its one of the best road engines out there. Loads of grunt with zero effort.
When I first took mine on track it was really difficult to get out of short shifting.
I'd have another in an blink of an eye. My 40K+ miles bike was still aces.
But what I'd really fancy is an SP1 or 2 with an endurance fuel tank on it and a set of heli-bars.
Great bike 'arguably' let down by the suspension though I never had any issues. Feels a little but dated compared to modern kit, but then it is!!
Cam chain tensioners can be an issue as said. Replace with manual tension items.
Sound amazing with cans on.
Likewise GP I'd love an SP2!
early ones had tiny tanks and to be honest they're quite thirsty. early camchain tensioners, front suspension usually changed for 96 fireblade items.
cracking bike and easy to ride quite fast on, just a little uninspiring after a while, 100hp does get a bit boring eventually.
£2k......fazer 1000
Stick another grand on it and I get you a blow-through turbo Bandit. That'll make you grin!
I don't want one... didn't really like nor dislike the one i rode, but felt underpowered i must admit...If you wouldn't have one, why not, what would you have instead for less than £2k.
But for £2k... i'd get ....
Ducati 900 SS 900SS 2001 51 PLATE 19310MLS PSH LIKE VFR SPRINT DAYTONA | eBay
A Ducati 900ss.
or even a 750ss
Ducati 750SS FF-02 10000 miles super sport belts done | eBay
I had on for a couple of years, never really got into it until I had to commute 100 miles a day on it in all weathers. then we started to get on. Seat wasn't great, tank range was crap, They all seem to have cracked left hand fairing panels... Sold it a couple of months ago to a mate who already had one, so obviously he likes them better than I do. I'm in no particular rush to get another.
I think his less than £2K is about £1,500
My Multi didn't have the grunt or outright power of the VTR and that was the 992cc injected motor with termis and ECU on it. I quite fancy a 900SSie, but I'm under no illusion that its as quick as a VTR.
For £1500 I reckon you'd be hard pushed to get a litre bike as usable and in as good nick as what VTRs sell for.
