Mallory Park Testing

Spent a cold day at Mallory yesterday. All went well, with bike and boy performing well. With occasional snow falling, and ornamental simians in cast alloy seeking the services of brazers, we couldn't keep any heat in the slicks, so like everyone on the 450s we resorted to the mega-soft wets. We wrecked them, obviously, but last years wets are pretty disposable!

Anyway, boy was under instructions to build it up gradually, and to keep his head - which he needed to do with many wobbly new folk doing their license on the track!

Anyway - he and bike performed very well indeed.

Didn't have the stopwatch on him, as it was a deliberate no-pressure day. But I did count him round just using the clock on my phone in the morning, and he seemed lapping at around a minute. I think he upped the pace a bit in the afternoon.

Well I don't claim to be an expert but the one day I had there on my Superduke had nice warm tarmac and AFAIA I was about a minute a lap then, so for a no pressure, new bike, feggin freezing day I'd wager that his times are pretty respectable !

I was 1.00 back in the day. I'd think he'd be needing 56's

Yeah, I think that's right. His best ever time on the 125 (would have been a lap record in a race), which got him pole position was a thou or two off 1 minute dead.

With 130hp and sticky tyres on a dry track, I reckon around a minute on wet tyres on a cold track with 60ish hp is in the ball park

, I'd have thought mid to high 50's are the Aprilia 450 times on a perfect day

The lap record for the RRV450 at Mallory is currently a 54.7 so for the first time on the bike using wets on a dry track, 6 seconds off doesn't sound bad at all for a shakedown run out

Don't get me wrong, i wasn't have a pop... was just saying that i think it would need to be faster to be competitive.

I didn't think you were having a pop but i was merely pointing out he will get a couple of seconds from knowing the bike better and more than that from warm slicks which puts him right in the area he needs to be time wise ........ which is nice
