Default Aluminium Welding - Kent or Oxford

The pin securing the offside pillion peg has always been a bit loose, and whilst I was cleaning the bike the other day, I noticed the steel pin has now worn so much of the metal away that it's about to cut its way out of the bracket altogether... basically a crap design!

A small blob of alloy weld, with the hole redrilled should fix it (for the foreseeable future anyway).

    Anyone have such technology??

either take a wander round the trading estates asking/looking for fabrication companies (small places preferably) ....

or how about trying one of the chemical metals?? , i used c/metal to repair a vauxhall gearbox mount where the threads had tore out of the g/box housing, it worked comfortably for at least 18 months, one bolt had sheared and refused to be removed, one bolt had stripped the threads out of the housing and only one was still holding fine...

after my bodge there didn't appear to be any trouble as said for at least 18 months, so going by the stress that would be under i doubt a pillion peg would present too much trouble ...

i bought it from the local motor factors, looks like a pair of syringes moulded together so that you get an equal quantity for mixing, no idea of the name but i hope this helps

Chemical metal.. it's a thought... I'd prefer to get a proper job done if poss. I don't often carry a passenger but would prefer it if the peg didn't fall off in use

    Ta for the idea.

Bungy their leg to the side of the bike, just in case

    Uh-oh
    [siren . . . Horse's War Stories incoming]

I know someone who did that to a pillion's legs

She was wheelchair-bound - but desperately wanted a go on a bike, so some 'strapping lads' lifted her on to his K's pillion seat, and bungied her legs on

Spin: is the bit unboltable (to post) or part of the bike's frame?

I might well take you up on that... does the bit need to be unbolted, or can you do it in situ (I'm thinking about electrics and stuff)...

Horse... problem is that the footrest hanger is one bit - so when you remove it there's no rider footpeg

Its not a problem welding it on the bike as long as the battery is disconnected. Other than that, it wont effect the electrics at all.

if you can take it off then feel free to post it to me and ill post it back.

Take a picture of what u need doing and e-mail it to me, ill recommend the best way of doing it

    Thanks,

    Marv

Probable a bit late now but Specialist Welding in Steventon are pretty reasonable.
From Oxford-A34 south to Didcot Interchange-up the hill to Milton Heights/Steventon-down the High St pass the shops and take 2nd right (Hanney Road)- follow for half mile or so and on rhs is Specialist Welding Services. Workshop is about 100m from road but clearly visible. May seem a bit abrupt but its just their way.

Here's one in Kent if you're still looking and this guy is mobile.

Don't know what he's like as it was just a Google search and I need to get an engine casing repaired.
