Read the Highway Code! It's not that difficult.

unless marked otherwise a side road/minor road gives way to the major road. If you are turning out of a T junction you GIVE WAY.

Ask someone in New Zealand, where the scenario appears to be set.

    Also see Rule 146:
    • in side roads and country lanes look out for unmarked junctions where nobody has priority

Thank you Olly that makes it very clear, which is the Highway Code Rule or Road Traffic Acr that handles that scenario?

Actually that is the rule for the Europe and the UK too, here is the UK's Highway code rule:

    239

Use off-street parking areas, or bays marked out with white lines on the road as parking places, wherever possible. If you have to stop on the roadside:

do not park facing against the traffic flow

but it isn't law. HC is NOT law. It's a code of best practice taking the law into account

Never knew that for the UK but then no one ever seems to bother about it. No one bothers either where my mate is in Holland.

Agree common sense make sense 1888 :-)

It was just kind of surprise to me that here does not matter are you comming from right or not. Otherwise I commute in London and even treat traffic lights with a pinch of salt, there are plenty of cyclists RLJ here :-)

Your picture being a T junction. I would always approach that thinking the top road has right of way and I am coming out a side street. You can sit at junctions and think "fuck you I have right of way" and come out. BANG. whether bike or car its going to hurt. Look before you leap my old gran always said

When I took my car test in 1975 I remember the instructor taking me to all the unmarked junctions that were likely to be on the test route, there were two or three in the town, you had to go down to second and look both ways or you failed. Also I've always thought that you should give way to the vehicle that is in the most hazardous posution, i e the one turning off the through road. PS I saw a bike come out of Hungerford Road (Bristol) on Saturday and swear and give hand signals to a woman who was trying to turn in. Just like in the picture. My wife and I both agreed that the rider was a cock.

Always worth treating priority as something given, not taken...
