Default TRC event of the year - The Santa Pod Stand Off

    When: Saturday 2nd May 2015
Where: Santa Pod Raceway, Northants, NN29 7XA
What: A chance to meet TRCers, have a go on the drag strip on a bike or in a car, vs another TRCer or against a random person, plus a petrol head day out
Who: Anyone who wants to come along
Cost: 10 quid to get in, 30 quid more to use the drag strip all day or just 10 for evening only

    www.santapod.co.uk
    Map: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/52...!4e1!1m0?hl=en

There seems to be some interest in this so let's give it a whirl.

There's been some clever talk amongst some of the site's car owners so here's a chance to see who's got the skillz, bottle and power on the (world championship) drag strip. Also the best interior.

It's a Santa Pod 'Run Wot You Brung' day so there will be hundreds (or thousands?) of people there, it's a big commercial event of which we would only be a tiny part. It's mainly a car event but some bikes come too and they can also go on the drag track. It's a fun petrol-head day out; stalls, food, lots of action on the drag strip. Sometimes they even run a rocket car down which goes ruddy fast and makes about a thousand car alarms go off at once from the vibration. Being critical it's a bit chavvy so don't expect Goodwood. But there's lots of dedicated car and bike folks plus plenty of amazing vehicles.

Anyway..... anyone who wants to can come along. If people want to have a go on the drag strip, that's even better. You can camp overnight there as well.

I've picked a date in May as warm weather would be good but in mid summer the queues to go down the 1/4 mile track can be very (very) long. If loads of people would prefer another day we could change it.

There's none of this it's not a race bollocks. It is a race. There will be winners and losers. I'm planning to win even though I only have an overweight low-power version of a diesel family car. That said you can have a go on anything, I've seen scooters and city cars going up the strip (very slowly!) and no-one cares. Weeksy can bring his Kia.

I don't think we need to book or plan anything in advance, just turn up on the day. We could tell them we're a club and we could probably put up a gazebo and a crude flag or something. If the weather did look horrendous a few days before we could always postpone.

Any thoughts or input? And who's up for it then? And who's too frit?

    Smashing

At these sort of things everybody does their own thing through the day. The socialising is at night with beer

I was hoping to vaguely co-ordinate us during the day for those who want, even if only to facilitate racing against each other.

I'll also have the 750 with me on the trailer

I'll probably get spanked by remapped family dervs all day but probably up for it, just for shits & giggles

As tempting as it is, also warn people not to get involved in any road based shenanigans nearby en route (there will likely be loads of Barry boys about) as plod aren't daft and local traffic guys will check the calendar and know what days are "easy pickings"

You've changed your tune a piece, since the other fred.

Count me in too. Doubt I'll bother with the strip though.

I was originally planning on bringing the ol' Volio, switching off the traction control and learning you all a trick or two up the quarter. But frankly I fancy a challenge and spanking everyone in my diesel hatch doesn't appeal.

So instead I shall come on the bike, or maybe in the Type-R if it's raining.

I might rock up if it looks like anyone else will.

I might also try and obtain a ridiculously flash car for the event.

You should Greeny, it'll be a reet good do. What are you driving? Wasn't it a Saab Aero? They have 10bhp more than mine and weigh a lot less.
