    Default Scoot screech?

Every once in a while my scoot (Aprilia Atlantic Sprint 500) lets out a bit of a screech when opening the throttle - not partcualrly clued up on CVT transmissions but am thinking its possibly the belt getting a bit worn? What say the masses?

Does it judder a bit on pull away? Quite often the squealing can be clutch shoes that need deglazing.

Not the smoothest thing on pulling away but put that down to being a 500cc single!
Guess I should really have a look through the service manual and familiarise myself with the mechanism....

Clutch shoes are just like brake shoes and they glaze up. They need roughing up witha wire brush every now and again and check the belt minimum thickness whilst you're in there.

This is what you will see when you remove the outer casing. Belt should be measured across the width and look for damaged teeth or delamination on the belt. Aftermarket belts are generally shite. Well Burgman 400 ones are anyway

Span the wheel up on the stand tonight - bit noisy so may be a bearing in the final drive?

Rock your rear wheel and check rear bearings. Grab top and bottom of wheel and see if you can wriggle it.

Is a little movement so maybe hub bearings on way out - think I'll have to give it a little TLC.

Probably not this is you've found an issue with the bearings, but FWIW I once had screeching from my Burgman 400 that I assumed was a bearing going. It turned out to be gummed up brakes that were binding. After they had been cleaned up the noise went away.

I'm kind of pinning hopes on it being a duff bearing however now the bloody thing has taken to stalling and throwing up the EFI light when coasting to a halt - been told likely spark plug or cap at fault (common issue apparently?) or fuel filter in tank gumed up......

Can you change the display to show voltage? If so keep an eye on that as if they over charge they throw up the EFi light, or at least the Nexus do and I think its the same piaggio lump? This deffo rings a bell though, will have a hunt around...
