The situation is really very fucked. Holborn is supposed to be very bad, two friends had bikes stolen there (one of them twice, the second time he was on the bike at the time) plus I've had personal experiences their. A lot of money in that area along with a lot of nice bikes.
Not interested in googling for opinion - that's not data

Facts and figures. On this subject (crime) more than many others, people don't seem to bother. And yet there is lots of it out there. Go figure

On my visits to London i see more plate less peds ripping about, through reds and along pavements ........ any plod even trying to go after them wouldnt stand a chance.

Latest thing isnt nicking bikes from parked areas by turning up with 4 or 5 on peds armed with angle grinders and steel poles .....its now forcing bikes being ridden by owners off the road, knocking them over at traffic lights etc and then riding off with the bike as it has keys in it and no need to push it with the ped.

I suppose thats one advantage of keyless ignition when the key is in the riders pocket and shuts down when it gets a distance from the key

Bike dependent, IIRC the KTM's will run until switched off, but if they use the kill switch instead if turning it off it can still be restarted sans key.

They (The Met) refer to it as moped enabled crime, but a quick google didn't throw up any obvious source of stats for it? Did find this though,

I had heard about the KTM thing but wasnt sure how other brands dealt with it.... as far as i know the Ducati will run but once stopped wont restart without the transponder or the 4 digit code but i know the dash will flash up

I know it comes with a non transponder red key and was told that whatever i do dont fucking lose that one as well as the normal one as it needs a new ECU if you lose both

(says the bloke who has ridden off with the transponder key in the top box lock and also the seat release lock )

My car is keyless and as i live in a bungalow, i use a "faraday bag" to stop anyone from scanning it through the window or suchlike.

I think it's only a matter of time before a protective bike owner does one of them serious harm.

My bil was a serial joyrider as a young teen, he did it because he was bored and it was easy and it was a good laugh. Not a lot to do with deprivation or having that bad a home life.Of course now he's a successful businessman and has upteen properties - A true success story. Whilst at the same time being an uncultured pig and a great example to my sons to carry on getting a decent education so they don't end up like uncle Si.

That's what I saw, perhaps it would be taken more seriously if people were being dragged out of their cars on a regular basis.
