I couldn't believe how awkward and uncomfortable it felt, it was arse up and head down but it felt like it wanted to have Monster style ergonomics, so I kept trying to sit up and for the life of me couldn't figure out what position it wanted me in. I really couldn't imagine riding one.

    Fuck it, superduke then.

990 is brilliant. 1290 is insane!

Neither cost nearly as much to run as a ducati

I'd have to blindfold myself until I was sat on it, otherwise I'd vomit if I saw it sideways on.

I think the best thing you've pointed to so far is the 690 SMCR.
But I just don't like it enough to drop 6k+ on one.

Oh and I'm a short arse and I couldn't touch the floor even on tip toes on the Enduro model I tried to sit on in the shop. I'd honestly drop it at traffic lights.

    Naked (ish)
    Won't lose money
    suitable for a short arse

What you want is a Buell XB12R/S, just don't read any of SDF's ownership threads.

True story, I went out with a lad from another forum on one, we had to stop after less than 10 miles because his mirror had vibrated loose and fallen off, which involved a frantic game of chicken on the M6 whilst we retrieved it. We carried on and every time we stopped he got a little tool kit out and checked all the easily accessible bolts were tight.
After a few years of ownership he thought that sort of thing was normal, I just stood eating my ice-cream shaking my head.

    Looks cool.

But you're right, I went for a ride out with my mate, he'd been lent one from Buell, we had a mental 30mins (man those things corner well), stopped for some fuel and I spotted his belt has started to fray. That was the end of that.

Oh well, I'm off to bed.
I don't know if I'm just bored but the more my ideas are thwarted the more outlandish my searches become.
At this rate I'll end up with a VFR800

I'll probably be ok once I get home and get out for a ride, I haven't ridden a bike since Feb.
I'm back for 3 weeks, so I'm going to plan an epic ride around loads of dealers, probably take a couple of days over it and try to find something that takes my fancy. It'll kill two birds with one stone, I'll do a road trip on my N1 and spend a couple of days just looking at bikes. I fancy a trip down to Norwich to that bloke that has a warehouse with about 250+ 80's and 90's classic bikes, and I'll stop at every shop on the way.

My TZR looked like a new bike when I got it, but after a year it was looking faded and tired.

I'm after an XT500 to potter about on.

I've seen pics of some really nice looking XT500 Supermotos, twinshock, lots of chrome, they're really smart.

You've had an SP1 which is one of the nicest twins out there. A 996 / 998 powered monster would be a lovely ride when its set up right and have a huge midrange like an SP1. I think Weeksy is being harsh on 1k servicing every 6k miles, but you're looking at bikes that are over a decade old.

I'd go for an 1100 Evo too. Or an MT10

I preferred the S2R 1000cc. It suited the riding position better than the 996 engine IMO. Looked nicer too.
