    Australian Gun Law Update;
    Here's a thought to warm some of your hearts....
    From: Ed Chenel, A police officer in Australia

    Hi Yanks, I thought you all would like to see the real figures from Down Under. It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by a new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by our own
    government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars.
    The first year results are now in:
    Australia-wide, homicides are up 6.2 percent,
    Australia-wide, assaults are up 9.6 percent;
    Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!
    In the state of Victoria.....alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent.(Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not and criminals still possess their guns.)
    While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since the criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed. There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the elderly, while the resident is at home.
    Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in 'successfully ridding Australian society of guns....'
    You won't see this on the American evening news or hear your governor or members of the State Assembly disseminating this information.
    The Australian experience speaks for itself. Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws affect only the law-abiding citizens.

    Take note Americans, before it's too late.

    I saw it on the interwebs so it must be true.

    That posting is about 18 years old. And bullshit.

    No, I'm merely pointing out that ammo cooking off doesn't cause the type of injuries associated with a bullet being fired from a gun. I've been near ammo cooking off, it sounded like popcorn being cooked. Didn't mention the guys occupation at all, reach much?

    Again, ignoring the blatently obvious that without so many guns there wouldn't be so much ammunition about. Plus, as B pointed out, fewer irresponsible owners not keeping ammo out of suitable containers.

    I don't know what you mean by 'reach much', but for 'occupation' it says 'firefighter' three times in the article

    The article mentions the place had guns and ammo. Perhaps one (some) of them was loaded and a round(s) popped off from it (them).
    From the comment section:

    Latimer County Emergency Management
    last Sunday
    Our little country needs big prayers for buffalo valley fire department. They had a house fire that was full of guns and ammo. The ammo started popping off and shot one fireman in the face and head area. He was life flighted to Tulsa. Our fire chief was so upset he started having chest pains. He too was life flighted to tulsa, he will have new meds and a few days at the hospital. So please everyone keep both families in your prayers! P.S. please don't forget the family that lost their home too.
    Given that the post is from Emergency Management I would think they know WTF they're talking about with the details.

    Oh, and are you certain he is a firefighter?

    The fourth Emmett Till memorial has been erected. It weighs 500 lb, is made of steel and is bullet proof because the last three were shot or stolen..

    Once again: I never once mentioned his occupation. Try to concentrate on what I actually posted.

    You didn't need to.

    But your not mentioning his occupation doesn't negate the point that someone going about their work was injured by ammunition (look - I didn't say 'shot by bullets from guns').

    And I still don't understand' 'reach much'.

    Well, he's probably unique, so you can't accuse them of being racist.

    When they call him names based on his 'orange' appearance, that is racist.

    No, it's orangist. His spray tan is what gives him the hue. Orange is not a race.

    What is racist, OTOH, is having discriminatory housing practices and continuing them once you've been called out on it. Perhaps a lifetime of racism is something you'd find interesting.

    Ammo cooking off in a fire will explode, but often the case is the dangerous bit that flies off, the bullet is heavy and usually doesnt go far or fast.
    Oh alright, I'll let you both win that one. Try this instead:

    WSAZ.com reported that three trucks were damaged after shots were fired into the Ona Volunteer Fire Department firehouse.

    Cabell County Sheriff Chuck Zerkle said someone shot through the station's garage doors, hitting radiators and transmission lines on the trucks. Two of the trucks are now out of service, according to Sheriff Zerkle.
