plans to update car insurance so that driverless vehicles would be subject to the same rules as normal ones
So the 'driver' will remain liable for any 'accidents'?
Best hope for no BSOD's or buggy updates.

But the problem is that few, if any, insurance companies in the UK will take the risk. To get around this Volvo intend to provide insurance themselves for their autonomous vehicles

Worth a watch for a smile. Though it is not the kind of driverless bike I'd buy: the coffee would spill.

Not sure I'm a fan of this, just what's the need? Only reason I think this could be brilliant would be to help those who can't legally drive i.e. physically disabled, those with epilepsy etc.

Could be revolutionary in mobilising the immobile.

Take a leaf out of the scifi book and these vehicles might even help the disabled in and out . . .

The need is the same as it has always been - getting from point A to point B

The majority of people (probably) aren't interested in the mechanics of driving, so being driven removes all of the BS they currently have to concern themselves with in order to fulfil their actual need, which is a transportation one. Driverless cars also - easily - offer the ability to free oneself from the costs and other issues of car ownership, you just call off the transport service as and when you need it. Owning cars is quite wasteful economically for most people.

Unlikely... you have to be able to take control of the vehicle... so you need to be fit to drive.
