Looking for a campsite on the German side. Anyone recommend one rather than me booking blind and finding a shit hole. Two nights with bar restaurants withing walking distance and prefer to be on the lake.

German side... you'll be wanting to call it Bodensee.

Not done any camping, but I stayed in an excellent biker friendly guest house on the Austrian side (Gasthaus Bethlehem) and a very very odd 80's stylee hotel (Hotel Pension Austria).

We want to be in the van. Is this where you were on about?

Not on the lake. You might see it from the top floor Austrian side would do. Saying so would Swiss if i thought it would not be almost double the price. Time soon to start booking campsites so may as well get in early as we have the dog also so not wanting to give them excuses.

Problem with the Swiss bit is you need Swiss Francs (same for Lichtenstein), which is a bastard when you forget and have a pocket full of Euro's and can't buy a coffee.

I would have thought being close to the border they would take both. I dont mind stopping off for Swiss Francs as passing through twice anyway and i am only stopping in Lichtenstein for a minute so i can step a foot out the van and say ive been as i have always missed the place.

Think i may have found one on the north side that looks nice

I didn't know, I was too scared to ask Johnny Foreigner.

So I just took a photo of the Kunts museum and buggered off back to Austria.

I can't remember what we paid, camping isn't cheap these days. But Lindau was quite a place to visit, proper tourist trap.

If you wander to the other end of the lake the Rhein Falls at Schaffhousan is one hell of a sight, if you like waterfalls.

The other direction, Garmisch-Patenkirchen is an eye opener for German wealth and has some spooky Yank army base.

Here is another great campsite if you fancy a look at mad King Ludvig's incredible castle.

We are in a van Hilldweller. €30 seems the norm top price with power and shower so not fussy. Those falls look amazing but its weather dependant. I am at north Lake Como and heading over to cross the Stelvio pass but only if its dry or sunny and spend a night at teh other end and one at your recommended site then on to Cochem. Crap weather we head north from Italy at Tirano and cut through Switzerland and spend two nights at this campsite. IF the later i will have a day to dick about sight seeing. May do that site one night and find one closer to the falls for the 2nd. Nothing is set in stone. WE are just touring a large circle and will end up at a bike rally for the first weekend in October up in Holland.

    Stelvio !!

If you a super campsite there, look no further....

Good food and drink, pool, sauna and apfel strudel to die for. Oddity: that region speaks German.

Any tips/recommend for areas up the Mosel? Did Cochem to many times but need to be the top half. Zell heading north and be able to walk into town for food/beer.
