Default Holy bajeesus Batman, I need a donor bike.

My girlfriend has just asked me to build her a custom bike. This is man heaven I think. Permission to buy another bike. Check. Permission to spend time in the workshop. Check. Permission to buy tools. Check.

She wants a SR400 style tracker. At least she thinks she does. She has a 28" inside leg, is tiny, and has zero experience (she'll be learning to ride soon). She got excited looking through Build magazine.

Suggestions for the donor please.Think tracker style, super lightweight, hipster.

Honda CB250, plenty of them customised as Trackers, Brats, etc, and they have yet to reach the cult status of their big brothers so still cheap. Check out Bikeshed, Bike EXIF and Rocket Garage for inspiration.

CB250 is a good shout. Cheap and would be a proper light giggle bike.

She needs a high mileage Honda CB400SF, I might happen to know where there's one for sale for £800 that the owner has got bored of.

Ok you have man heaven, just to keep things sweet, share the love. Ask her to make a mood board*. This means the house can be littered with bike magazines while she cuts them up, and you get a few more clues as to what she is after. Dont buy anything till you are sure what she wants...

    * I only have the vaguest possible idea what a mood board is...

I run a design studio, I can get her running through the design process. :-)

If you're thinking superdream or RS they are currently going for silly money

There is, one of my colleagues has just bought one and is planning to café it, the back end of the frame is fucking hideous once the tailpiece is off, I'll likely end up welding on a rear loop for him.

Are you familiar with wooden legs? aka ergo models? very, very handy for getting controls in the right place, that work, without needing more joints than most people have in their legs. Not to mention back and arm position.

I've got a Harley MT350 that many have done up to 'scrambler' format. It's in bits - let me know if you're interested.

And how many posts and no one's asked for pics of girlfriend? This place has gone to the dogs.

Think it was the 400 but a guy i knew in Edinburgh who could not drive fell in love with them so much he paid me to hire a van and take him to London to some importer to pick one up. Got a night in a B&B also. Bloody expensive bike. He ended up working for a courier company and using it for that.

You can do cool stuff with a Cb two fifty too. Although it's not a 400.
