Sounds like a good excuse for a twice a week wash and blow dry at the hair salon to me ;-)

If you can avoid it then don't. Or do it under the shower. Healing comes first.

Do remember your shoulder is banjaxed, don't reach up to your noggin, er, noggin, with the knackered one in the throws of a warm soapy deluge.

Are you able to wash it with a shower attachment or a mug over the bath. Wear a raincoat to keep your shoulder dry

Don't worry, I wont forget!! I'm going to get a sling made up with a bandage first, then do the same after with a dry bandage so the p[roper sling can be washed!!!

Tomorrow is a rest day as I've done a fair bit today, so it'll be, get clean then a sofa day while the proper sling dries, then back into the real one when it isnt smelly and yucky!!!!

Sadly, here it isn't particularly easy to sort, hence going to the hairdresser. It's not just where and how (there's no bath here), but I'm really not comfortable leaning forward for very long - all the wrong pressures through then new bit!!

but it's a reasonably roomy shower, so we're going to angle the shower to the good side and cover the scar so I can wash my hair without getting it wet and have a 'light' shower as well. Which will be really nice!!!

Good, a sensible and practical solution. In the grand scheme of things a few weeks of inconvenience is neither here nor there.

Agreed! one full month now!! already bored, especially with the bastard compression socks that everyone has a different answer for the question "how long do I have to wear these?".

TBH - if I could get rid of those, I'd be a much happier bird!! I get the arm thing and will do everything right to get that to heal well. The socks seem pointless given that I'm pretty mobile!! When I needed them was the time before the operation when I really was virtually immobile!!! But no one suggested them then!!

I'm amazed there hasn't been a queue of volunteers to help you shower properly

Saw the consultant today for my post op check up. Well, I started up seeing someone who is obviously practicing to be the MOST superior and patronising sod out there. Not that far up the tree from his response to my list of questions (to go and get the surgeon that actually did the op!) and it really does piss me off when you go into the consulting room and the guy says "so, what can we do for you today?". Yes, I know they see lots of people, but seriously. It doesn't fill a patient with confidence when returning for an appointment that the surgeon requested to then be greeted like that. My friend and I think he was trying to show off to the young student in the room, but whilst he was out getting the surgeon, we asked her if she knew is name and she didn't, so he can't have impressed her much He then proceeded to ask me questions then ignore me whilst he read the notes. And once he'd worked out why I was there, he decided to prove how very very clever he was by using the latin words or full medical descriptions of what had been done. Bloody smart arse!

Anyway. The surgeon is very happy with how the scar looks and despite his insistence on saying "It went as well as can be expected" - and when I say but its ok tho, his response is "it's never going to be ok, you smashed it!!"!!!

However, after some chat he did say he's very pleased. Which had me doing a happy dance (inside! didn't think that would go down well!). He has said I'm unlikely to get full movement, not star jumps or reaching things from the top shelf and when I said I can do without star jumps but I need to be able to drive a car/van, ride a motorbike and ski, he did roll his eyes a bit!! LOL But the range of movement he is expecting is going to be ok for those things, so that's ok He's also never told me to quit riding bikes or skiing, unlike some of his minions

One concern I had was that I didn't know how they'd attached the tendons after the first surgeon told me that he could only see a bit of one in the CT scan. Mr Crowther said they found a few with bone on the the ends and have attached them to both the bone and the metal bit. They've given me some extra physio to do until I see the physio to get proper advice

He also said that if I'm going away for the season, then he didn't need to see me until May unless I was really worried about something in which case to phone his secretary and make an appointment or ask the question and he'd see me/reply. He really was incredibly helpful and my friend said he seemed really pleased with the outcome

Oh, and apparently the metal is cobalt chrome so I'm worth a fair bit in scrap value

The downside is that he said he's expecting it to take a year to heal. But I reckon I'll be able to ride a bike by the end of May!! (Hopefully!)

That sounds like as good a result as could be expected - you got lucky, you really did.

Now I'm going to give you some advice I'm sure you'll ignore: don't ride a bike until until at least May when you've seen him again.

    xx
