I decided there was (just) room in the garage for three bikes. I've been casually looking at early 50s Norton singles for a while so as to return to my early 1970s roots.

Came across this one and couldn't resist:

It looks very tired but was in the same ownership for 30 years up till the end of 2016. It started first kick and ran very nicely and quietly.

But when it's delivered on Sunday it will be tucked away while I attend to the Guzzi and put some miles on the Arrow.

Looks like a plunger framed 500cc OHV ES2 to me, though I'm no expert.

    Nice find Ian - enjoy!

Pete gets the prize. Year is 1952. It's the year I specifically wanted, as the earlier ones have the upright gear box which has wear-prone external linkages and very long lever travel; later ones have the non-Featherbed swinging arm frame.

The plunger frame is known as the Garden Gate as that's what it looks like.....

ebay, http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/, gumtree / preloved. You have to keep your eyes open......

The best way is to join the owners' clubs and put a wanted ad as you sometimes get bikes that have been very well looked after but if you're impatient like me that's too slow.

I've been looking (but fairly casually) for about 3 months for this one.

I really like that. As I get older my attraction to classics grows, I keep hoping Dad will get one. He had an arrow a little while ago but sold it quickly before I got a go.
