Getting a bit better now, and a bit braver. The lads know I'm shit scared of heights and cliff edges, but they thought I'd be OK on this descent. You can see the bend bit half way up. Well, that was a 5' drop and would have been hard anywhere. But that's a 1,500' drop to the edge. I froze and Thomas rode my bike down for me. I'm not ashamed to admit I felt rough as fuck at the sight of the drop

Then I pushed the bike around the second tricky bit

Then we had some fun in the picon mining areas

We all came down this hill, but Thomas tried to go back up

I imagine air filter cleaning is also a popular past time there!

    Oh yes

And if I'm last in line, I sometimes have to drop back 50 yards to see where I'm going

I managed to improve the suspension today, so decided to be brave and do the 3 mile cliff edge ride by myself

I've only done it once, and that was when the other lads went and I just had to follow

But the bike felt very composed today. The main improvement is that it tracks straight and doesn't veer offline when I hit something hard. It handled the path without scaring me too much.

The pics don't do it justice really. I was too scared to stop at the best photo places

One of the fast lads has been teaching a young kid, who's got a Beta 125RR. He's only 16, but very keen. Thomas asked us if Manu could come out on our gentle rid today. I said yes, but was a bit worried as I saw him ride a couple of months ago, and was just learning.

But how wrong I was. He's learned really quickly and passed his test, which allows him to ride the 125 at just 16. He was keeping up with us everywhere, except up big hills where the power came in. Youth eh ? No fear

He was right behind me on some stuff. His suspension is far better than mine and it showed. His 125 cost €1,500 more than my X-Trainer

And I showed him how to crash in deep sticky mud I went right over the bars when the front wheel just went Took 5 mins to clear the bike and my helmet and gloves of thick gooey mud/clay. Just to make the bike rideable.

Then 2 tokens at the jet wash. Then 15 mins at home to wash the bike, boots, trousers and lid

I usually avoid this volcano climb, but I felt a bit braver on Saturday. That's me at about 25s on the safe side of the ridge. I pulled off down the path to the right at about 1m 40s.

The video doesn't really show the drop to the left, but I just got the wobbles just watching it now

Had a scary crash today. Heading down a steep, tricky rocky section with big drop to the left. All seemed well until I had to go over some rocks. No engine, it's stalled. I toppled over and down the gorge head first. It was scary and for those few split seconds, I really thought it was gonna hurt.

Big scratches on goggles and lid. Was lucky no eye or neck injuries. Good armour saved leg and arm injuries. But really hurt my right middle finger
Can't pull brake on and had another 15 minutes riding downhill to get to a road. Now throbbing

Even smashed the screen on my phone, and that was in my bumbag

Bad time to decide to go onto reserve

On sofa now with a beer.

Middle finger is like a balloon today. And wrist hurting. So walked into town to see the doc. Took x-rays which show all clear. But she's sent them onto an expert for checking.

All took less than 30 mins

She chatted with the specialist and all OK. Strapped middle 2 fingers together and put a wrist support on. Can't ride for 10 days, and even driving is a pain. Hurts to change gear
