First off, yes, I do know this is the shed, but so is the bike. Not sure if it will even make it into the shed, let alone ever come out again.
Now this bike will be known to some of you, in fact some of you have written your names on the tank. Since then, it has been in decline...
It's more mouldy than rusty, but there is plenty of rust.
First things first, does it run. er.. no, of course it doesn't. The Petrol in it is like honey. So the tank is off and draining ready for a bit of swilling out. The carbs were seized. Never seen that before. Diaphragms have gone all stiff and horrible.
I have a shopping list already of Battery, either new set of carbs or loads of bits of carbs, tyres, chain and sprockets, Forks are pitted, not sure how badly yet. Probably needs pads given how long its sat...
Hmm. might be easier to put the signed tank on another bike and put this one in the canal...

I'm a relative newbie in the grand scheme of things, so what's the story behind the bike?

That's not entirely true. It's cars and vans as well.

Bike was originally owned by Metz (of visordown) who gifted it to his wife, Fallen Angel as the matt black bike it is today, IIRC as a present for passing her bike test. A load of us signed it in a pub car park at one of the Memorial Meets arranged by the dayglo green clad Riceburner.

There may have been a crash, loss of memory, blame on tyres, a book and a serialised drama as well

It's going to need a whole lot of love. I think your best bet is a spares bike. Or a different bike. By the time you get everything you need to even get that near an MOT, never mind presentable, it'll have nickle n dimed you half to death.

Oh... And spend the absolute bare minimum you can to see if it runs before treating it to luxury goods like a new chain or brake pads etc. Sounds like battery and carbs is the least you need, and it's probably going to be more.
