'Cos my I got my ZZR6 out yesterday and it's still running shit as ever, so I'm working myself up to stripping the carbs.

    But I'll try this first.

    Thx

I started a thread on this. Homebrew IIRC. Anyhows Big Pete I think said add 5% meths to fuel. And I got some spray carb cleaner (known as throttle body these days) had that up into the air intakes.

Still runs a bit rich but better.

OTOH a tankfull of shell V power & cane the bastard.

Squirt WD40 on the carb rubbers, it will seal them.
Easiest way to clean the carbs is with aerosol carb cleaner, squirt loads into the carbs with the airbox off and the engine running, you've probably got z blocked air jet.
Once you've done that, run it on super unleaded and thrash the bollox out of it.

Some people have good results with Profi fuel-max but for others it doesn't work. At only three applications per can, it's very expensive to try when it may not help, but would save a lot of time and effort if you are one of the successful people.

Ordered, thx BB. Seems like the kind of stuff that, if a fuel treatment is gonna work, then this will do it. Which is what I'm after.

I've remembered now. I only had a few litres of fuel in the tank, so I guesitimated Pete's 5%. When around the short circuit (about 1 mile). Came back added more meths. Repeat until it didn't like it very much. Added a bit more petrol until it did. Caned it on the long circuit & stuck a tank of Shell V Power into it. It was the meths what did it the bulk of it. The shell seemed to have crisped everything up as it was running much better on standard after I'd used that tank up. Not perfect, but close enough to be good enough. BTW even carbed it really likes Shell. Not an iota of difference on BP's Ultimate equivalent though.

However: https://www.therevcounter.co.uk/thre...ighlight=meths. Which we both know in our heart of hearts.

IME if carbs are varnished through old fuel, then you'll need to strip them and get them cleaned professionally. If you have loads of crap in the fuel, then you'll have to strip them and blow out all the jets. I've not had good results with additives to clean out carbs, but let us know how you get on with this super cleaner stuff.

I just remembered - if I have to strip the carbs there's an ultrasonic bath at work I can stick 'em in .

That is probably your best bet then. It is a pain, but worth doing if the bike is going to run properly.

Looks like that won't happen lol. My boss (who's a complete headcase and excruciatingly bad at her job) gobbed off at me one time too many yesterday so I quit on the spot. Nothings worth that, blessed relief. Got until Monday 30th to sort the ultrasonic bath then . Fuel additive going in tank this morning, see what happens.

I am surprised that no-one has suggested Redex.

Obviously removal of the carbs, a complete strip down, and thorough clean is the ideal solution. However, depending on the design of the bike you might be able to get away with just removing the float bowls and use carb cleaner to get the majority of crud out of them. While you're at it examine the diaphragms too as they can deteriorate over time leading to poor running.
On the majority of multi cylinder engines it is the carb furthest to the left where most crud accumulates especially if the bike has not been used for long periods.

Did you examine your spark plugs? Was there any significant difference between them?

A warning about Redex if youre an old Kawasaki owner
I run my ZZR with a little IPA in the tank in winter to stop carb icing. It was faltering a bit so I added some redex injector cleaner - it doesnt mix with IPA
It coated the fuel filter, strainer on the tap, jets everything with a sticky pink jelly. I had to strip everything and bung all the jets in an ultrasonic cleaner.

After the event naturally, it was reproduceable - a bit of ipa and redex in a jar = pink glue

I did the meths route once. Bike ran like shit for a while even though it must only have been 5% i put in yet still ended up stripping and cleaning the carbs out.
