Michelin do some excellent off line maps of the whole of Europe. You can even turn your phone off and they still work.
Getting lost is all part of the joy, isn't it?

You can use Google for turn by turn navigation on an offline map, however if you've created a custom route in Google Maps (a nice scenic route with waypoints) then it won't navigate from it. Only display on the screen - so you have to keep scrolling around, zooming in out etc.
You can use Google maps for this, it's faffy, but possible. I've described it elsewhere on this forum, so search. I'll also post full instructions next time I'm on a laptop.
