I have a non running, rusted old kx50 2 stroke and Iím hopefully going to rebuild it from scratch to get a better understanding of mechanics and maintenance.
It ran when I bought it, but now the cables have seized, itís rusted, lots of cosmetic damage as has been left outside for years
I am a complete beginner in terms of engine mechanics and technique. Iíve changed tyres, disc brakes, adjusted chain, fixed fork seals and other very minor jobs.
Iím competent with tools and the passion is there.
But I have no idea where to start.

    Parts - best UK shop/supplier

Workshop manual - will a 1989-95-99 workshop manual suffice?

Potential problems - common mistakes beginners would make.

    Where to begin!

Any help would be greatly, greatly appreciated!

    Got any pics?
First thing to do would be to establish that it is restorable. being left outside for years, it could be completely scrapm or if its been well covered etc could be OK.
what are motor, tank and loom like?

Edit: being KX , I suppose it has a plastic tank?

Not sure that you're allowed until you've got about 10 posts. Go and comment on a load of stuff and come back and you'll find that ability to add all there.

Open an account on postimage.org, upload your pics there and post links with your questions.

First thing I'd suggest is do some googling to locate a dealer likely to have parts for a bike of that age. That may be a struggle as parts go unobtainable after a while especially on bikes that didn't sell in huge numbers.
