That fits what people were saying after qualifying too. The Honda was a handful so it looked like Marquez was playing it safe, staying with the leading pack to see how the pace went and keeping his options open for a late charge. But the trouble with riding in a pack is it encourages dicing, as we see every race in Moto3. Super exciting outcome though and kudos to every one of the pack for their skill and bravery.

Interestingly I think what led to that scenario was Lorenzo's early charge. He too wasn't 100% happy with the bike so (as he does) he aimed to get a fast start and make up distance so he could use his open track speed to stay ahead. But because he never made that break he effectively backed up the field, too slow to get away but too fast to pass until he faded.

Best race of the season! What a cracker and proper skills to Rins and Vinales. Marquez is definitely an alien after saving that clip to elbow/handlbar and Dovi is hungry again! Lorenzo did back them up nicely for a proper race!
