    If you're not a phone nerd or don't want the latest greatest, just get whatever Samsung is in your budget.

    Probably an A6 or A8.

    My work phone is an A5 (not made anymore) and it does everything you could possibly want it to do without any bells or whistles.

    What ever is available unlocked (all 3 phones are unlocked as std) off facebook market place with a busted screen, less than 30 quids worth of bits off ebay and a giffgaff or tesco pay as you go sim. Sorted.

    My experience with ebay phones has not been good . Both of them have been faulty ( and admittedly I did get money back)

    In the time honoured TRC tradition*, may I recommend the Motorola G5? About 150 SIM free. Mine works fine. PAYG SIM from Three: 3p/min, 2p/text, 1p/MB

    * I.e. I'll recommend the one I've got.

    I've had two Windows phones - both were perfect. I'm still using the second.

    The Moto G6 wot Eclipse linked to is a decent phone. I bought one for wifey at that price a weeks ago and it's been excellent so far, I'd buy one if I needed a new phone.

    You asked what Nokia's are like. I've got a Nokia 8 and have gone from liking it to wanting to stamp on it. It has a very annoying fault of dropping a wifi signal then making a "bing" sound when it reconnects. There is no way of turning off the "bing" other than muting the phone which is great if you don't like any notifications, crap if you like the phone to ring when someone calls. Nokia's solution is to remove all wifi connections, clear the cache the add them manually, not something you can do with public wifi. It's a very common problem that Nokia have no interest in resolving, because of this I'll never buy another Nokia.

    Yeah my youngest just bought a g6 and is pretty made up with it.

    If you're actually going to buy something you should probably get something pretty recent, which is the only reason I'd exclude the g5, also pretty decent (unless you're pretty clumsy and phones don't last you that long, that would be my eldest ...)

    Bought a Cubot X18+ android phone off Ebay. 140 delivered in a week. So far so good. My MotoG4 Plus was giving me Ghost Touch issues and driving me up the wall.

    New phone has dual 20mp rear cameras + led flash, a decent front facing, 64GB built in, either dual sim or sim + up to 256GB Micro SD card tray. I've stuck in a 128GB card as local storage, tons of space.

    Fast enough for me with 4GB internal RAM and a quad core processor. Android 8.0. Quick to boot, charges reasonably quickly and seems to hold charge as well.

    Good bright clear HD screen. I'm rather impressed with it to be honest and it was simple to restore my from the other phone's backup.

    Comes with charger, screen protector, case cover and gel case protector. Value to for money.

    I'm the opposite, that's why I like apple stuff, it just keeps working, but the recent exposure of ios killing the older phones was off putting.

    Samsung do it as well. My phone has just ticked over 18 months and it takes 20 secs to load an app. Samsung A3 2016.
