As you will know i had a little off on the way back from the most enjoyable TRC track day at Pembrey at the weekend. At the time of the accident while lying by the road i mentioned pothole to the attending traffic copper and then thought standing water.

Its been bugging me since as i remembered a bang as the tankslapper stated which threw me off the bike a few seconds later. The more i thought of it the more it annoyed me. Today the recovery company rang asking for the key as it was still in my mullered Dainese jacket pocket and they need it for insurance assessment tomorrow. The missus ran me through to the place and the bloke there knows me so let me into the compound to have a look at the bike. I didnt think it looked too bad when i was looking back at it from my crumpled heap position on the road

    Then it started getting worse

    And worse

    and some more

And then came the lightbulb moment ....... i did hit a pothole which started the whole thing off

That was pretty much the only damage on the left of the bike, the tyre hadnt even deflated

On the drive home i got the missus to go up the slip road while i filmed from the passenger seat and think i have found the offending piece of poorly laid tarmac as its about the right place when shit got really scary really quickly

Just the right size width to fuck a bike wheel but a car tyre can skim over it nicely .....sods fucking law

Mate, Norfolk county council should get the bill for the whole fucking lot. If they've compensated drivers for wheel rims, the precedent is there.??

Bloody hell. And what GP says. Definitely. Duty of care, H&S etc etc etc. Shitty bit of tarmac laying, unnecessarily shitty

Poor bike. Not sure T-cut will do that?

Edit - what the council will want is proof of the depth of the pothole/ledge in the tarmac. Not quite sure how possible it will be for you to get that on a motorway slip road! I had to when I tried to claim for a blackbird wheel years and years ago - but quite country lane, was able to put a ruler in the pothole. Not so simple on a slip road?!!

Whereabouts on the A47 is it, and it looks like more of a trench than a pot hole.

What's even worse is that it had a brand new chain and sprockets. The injustice of it all

East bound slip road up from Thickthorn Roundabout A11 onto A47 ...... most of it is a strip of banding but this little section has dropped and given the weather would have been full of water to disguise it nicely

Don't forget to charge for damage to you, not just the bike & kit.

Might be worth thinking about an FOI about when/if others have reported it and what the highways regular inspections said.

If an 'A' road is it council or Highways England?
